Been seeing many promo's on Amazon for OBD readers. Wouldn't mind having one but reviews are all over the place. Besides my Riv, I have Asian, German and GM product. Some seem to have issues with some of the foreign makers.

Not looking fro pro level just a decent one for home use. So any Rec's???

I hate to recommend Harbor Freight but my Son got one from them and he has had no complaints.

There is a HUGE difference in a mere "READER" and "SCANNER" and a diagnostic machine. A simple reader does just that; reads the codes, nothing more. And there are different levels of readers; some do ONLY the engine, some do powertrain, some do ABS, some do US only, some do US/ CANADIAN/ ASIAN; Some do US/ CANADIAN/ ASIAN/ EUROPEAN. You are talking the range from less than $50 for mere reader, to WELL OVER (Sit down, sticker shock) $4,500 . And the funny part is this: All that technology won't be able to detect a mere simple intermittent ground, which can wreak havoc any car.

If you have an Android phone, buy TorquePro and the OBD adapter. Total cost would be around ~$30. TorquePro is widely supported by a strong community.
