Now here's an expensive repair...

  1. Under different circumstances, I would have hit the local salvage yard for parts, if time was available, and safety weren't an immediate issue.

The driver side seat belt retractor in my 89 F150 4x4 (daily transportation) stuck in the fully "out" position a couple days ago. No amount of manipulation could get it to retract this time...it has gotten stuck several times in recent months, but has always released. The passenger side has also stuck once or twice, and since my little girl rides there every morning, having new replacements is really a no-brainer. The local Ford dealership had to overnight the parts from Mnpls. Only had gray available, I have a red interior. I need to drive it out of town tomorrow for several days, with my daughter riding too. Installed price...$400. :jd:

This includes the "female" part that sticks up thru the bench seat. The courtesy van picks me up after work, and I get my pickup, only to find the driver side "female" piece is installed backwards, so that the release button is FACING my right side, instead of away from my side...not a huge problem for a few days, but kind of a PITA. Now I have to take it back in next week for them to do it right. They also completely cracked the mounting of the trim panel they had to remove to do the R&R. Can you say "power tool"? I'll bet they didn't use a screwdriver. The service advisor is going to discuss this with the tech. that did the work...but I doubt I'll end up with a new piece. Not for an 89. A year and a half ago they did the same thing when I had them install a new motor in the driver side door for the PW. The very front mounting screw broke completely thru the plastic panel. I should have addressed it then, but it isn't visible with the door closed, and it doesn't rattle at all. But I did mention it today when I bitched about the work they did this time. We'll see what they say about the damage when I take it in next week. Damn, I hate dealerships... :spank:

Tell me about it...and tack on another $110 to service the tranny. If I wasn't taking it out of town, and carrying my little girl, I would have tried to wait until I could do it myself. What a rip...
