Looking at my car and rembering what was on it when I bought it, I have a question.

It seems that my GS350 had the ram air hood... the dual inlet aircleaner. But no scoups attached to the aircleaner. I allways thought somebody removed them before me but I noticed that there are no screw holes for it to attach to, and on the hood there were block off plates attached to the bottom of the scoops. Is this odd... I can't imagine anyone buying a GS only to not get the ram air:Do No:

But my point is... I would like to find these block off plates since I am not using the aircleaner and I don't like water pouring directly onto the dist and coil. The originals got destroyed when I moved into the new house:Dou:

    Any help appreciated

    TIA

Ram air was never an option, it was standard. ALL GSs from 69 through 72 came with it.
That said, if you have the dual snorkle air cleaner without scoops, and no screw holes, it is probably from a 73-4, which used the same dual snorkle air cleaner but no ram air. This air cleaner has two short snorkles close together. They would be right behind your hood scoops. There is no such thing as a factory block-off plate, but if you can't find/don't want a ram air cleaner, they would be easy to fabricate.
Lastly, in case you did not know, there is no performance benefit to the factory ram air system.

I am the second owner of my GS350 (now 455). When I bought it it was 100% stock. It does have the complete ram air setup and I also believe as in the previous post that it didn't come any other way. Probably a later model air cleaner that you have. Or a prior owner thought water would get in the motor  and got rid of the factory one. People do strange things to cars, as the commercial goes! Brian

My GS350 is in the same situation. The owner did not like the water pooling on the motor when it sat in the rain. During the first couple thousand miles (this was in early 1970), he was having many problems with the distributor and points and thought that this was the cause of this problem so he had the ram air box removed from the air cleaner and had the plates on bottom sealed up. It's been this way for as long as I can trace back. People do some strange things...

Oh well, I was hoping that those block off plates were something factory... Although they looked like it. I live in SW Florida and during the Rainy season those hood scoupes do nothing but act as a drain for the water on the hood:af: It really makes the engine compartment look bad. It looks like I'll just make up some Plates to block off the scoupes.

    Thanks All.
