So im gathered around the dinner table for mothers day at mom's house today and my brother in law was at the computer watching youtube vids. He was watching that rediculously biased chrysler video from 57 where ALL the chryslers just happened to beat all the GM cars in every aspect. So then he proceeded to start all of his smack talking. Now hes telling me that he is going to smoke my wildcat. He has a 57 chrysler new yorker with the 392 hemi in it. That hemi appears to be rated at 325 hp. I belive his car is all stock. I drive a 401 nail powered 66 wildcat. I have dual quads, an msd distributor with the timing set up for dual quads, and 3.07 gears. Do you guys think that I have anything to worry about for this race? His is a 4 dr and my cat is a 2. Not sure what either of these cars actually weighs.
The one advantage that I know I have is that I take very good care of my machines and make sure that they are always running up to snuff, while he on the other hand likes to drive stuff into the ground and then worry about it when it no longer runs. Would love to hear your guys opinions and experiences and I will keep you posted of the outcome. :3gears:

You got a fairly big car that's not geared for off the line, but still a nice setup with the 2 fours, msd and all. His Hemi is no slouch, but that's a big car that's probably got gears to go cross country.
Would need to know a lot more about the cars, but I would think that you should be able to take him.
A good point to it is that if you hand him his butt, you can get a pin-striper at the next car show to put Hemi killer on the back. Make sure that it stands out so that your in-law can see it every time you are both in the same place.
Just dont' talke too much smack before you prove your point like he's doing. You don't want to give fuel to the fire if you get spanked.

LOL!! I love the pin stripe idea. I would imagine that his car has some cross counrty type gears in it as I know the guy that owned it before him and that guy did drive the car all over the country. As for my car off the line, I do have a momentary button hooked up to the switch pitch so it will actually get pretty good rubber from a dead stop. I think your right on the lay off the smack talk idea though. Thats always been my style.

So upon further research it appears that his car weighs somewhere between 4,200 and 4,500 lbs. The wildcat is suppose to weigh just a tick over 4,000 lbs. Looks like I have him weight wise and hp should be pretty close. But what takes the cake as far as tourqe? I know those hemi's, even the old ones made some goog tourqe number but the nailheads are no slouch in that department either.:TU:

If you have a good tune I think you will smoke him. The switch pitch should help a lot.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Doug! I hope I do too. If I can pull it all off I want to try to video it and post it on here.

The 401 would probably make a lot more torque than that hemi. I think you have got him beat. Your tranny is probably a whole lot better than his. It should be a good race though

Really? U think the 401 would make a lot more torque? I thought those Hemis were nothing but torque.

Here's what a 50's hemi web site says about the 57

    <TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=2 width="85%"><TBODY><TR bgColor=#eaeaea><TD>392 ci </TD><TD>325 hp </TD><TD>430 ft-lb </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Pretty good power. From another web site I got that the new yorker weighs 4360 lb's. It has a torque-flite transmission and has 2.93:1 final drive gearing. That gives it about 13.4:1 LB to HP ratio.

You should be able to look at your stats and see if you stand a chance. Looks like it would be a sleeper though. Pretty fair power, good torque.

The most important aspect of any race is the launch. You have the advantage of the switch pitch which he doesn't. As long as the carbs. & ignition advance curve is doing what it should the way it should you will have the advantage on the launch. The Hemi is no slouch by any means, but if you can gain the initial advantage of a "Hole Shoot" of a couple cars he now has to play catch-up. This is where the Hemi will shine as it has much better breathing potential top end so he could possibly pull ahead on the top as his RPM's & better breathing potential take over. Ask Ken Lisk how his '66 'Cat ran after the "Rockers". All stock with some mods to carb, ignition & trans. the car ran a 15.27@89MPH with 3.07 gears also. Not bad for a car that when new would run a 16.6 to a 16.7. Ken now feels the car would defiantly be in the high 14's & has MUCH better top end pulling power. Not bad for an original stocker. Talk to Yacster. He lives on L.I. in Montaugh??? His '64 Riv. runs in the 14.4's. His engine has well over 100K. He has 3.07 gears also. I'm thinking that weight difference isn't more than 100lbs. or so.
    Just my thoughts.

That 57 may have 3.23 or 3.55 gears.I have seen alot of these old mopars with these gear sets.I still think you would have the edge on him.

I know the '59 401s had 445 ft lbs and 325HP. You've got him beat stock vs stock. Now you have some mods so now you really should have him beat. Yall's cars probably weigh the same. I think it's gunna be a close race. I think you got him beat

Honestly to me it should be a one car length win or lose race. But the :bglasses: factor of a couple of old tire burners going at it out weights the who crosses the line first.

Kudos to you both for driving them hard.

throw some drag radials on the cat and put your stock hubcaps on. I'd bet money that he doesnt notice
