I have has this NOS Tach lying around for 10 years. What models does it fit and how much is it worth? My 69 GS has a crappy original tach in the 4-speed consolette. Will the tach itself fit my car and be correct? (Crappy tach provisionally promised to board member) -- Steve
As an engineer, I love the fact that the face says "RPM" with "Hundreds" underneath it. That is technically a correct description. If it reads 60 hundreds, the engine is turning 6,000 RPM. Most tachs say "RPM x hundred". If 60 is engine RPM x 100, that means that if it read 60 the engine would be turning 0.6 RPM. They ought to say "RPM / hundred" to be technically correct.
Yes, it will fit the tach housing if you have a consolette... but not correct. I had one in my 69 stage 4 speed.... excellent find and purchase!!!!
" Knee knocker " is the correct slang description If it were mine? I would switch out the crappy tach for this one and sell the crappy tach on ebay and make myself some cash for something else I need or want for the car?
I have taken the knee knocker tachs and fit them in the console/consolette housing and it looks good.
If someone on the board has a real nice tach they want to sell, I'd rather get that than send mine off to get restored. Faded dial, reads wrong, who knows what it has been through.
What he said....you can use the guts of that tach....just remove the chrome ring and it will fit in the consolete bezel....and it even goes to 7,000 RPM.....even though a nailhead won't . Peace WildBill
I think you gotta file a notch in the clear lens to orient it right in the die cast housing....just copy the old one. Peace WildBill
If you are careful you can bend the tabs....not all the way and remove that chrome ring and reuse it.....there is a trick to doing that......call me and i will tell you how. Peace WildBill
