I swaped a gentleman from this board my used but nice 70 custom grill for a nos 70 GS grill, it showed up today. Got it mounted and it looks great! really makes a big difference! I couldnt be happier! Anyone have a GS emblem and the J moldings for sale? Just had to share my excitment! Now I'll have some breathing room in my budget!

This is what holds me back from buying a GS. I don't generally ragard my cars as museum displays, I like to use them. You have to think in the back of your mind what if. You spend all your money making the car the way you want it and then can't truely enjoy it because of the replacement cost. The deals are few and far between and always get dealt to someone else. The person that traded you that grille has a heart of gold or a head of rock, just be thankful that you are the one that got the deal. Any item is worth what the buyer decides to pay, then all sellers think the part has that value and wont sell until they get that price or more. I wish market prices were set by poor people I would own at least one GS other than my regal GS.
I dunno, he wanted it. I wanted the Gs grill. You wont see me hording it or trying to sell it, its proudly on my car as we speak! I'm not complaining!
this thread is getting slightly off subject (started on grilles now more about overall cost of parts)....and that's where I wanted to go anyway so here goes. Unless you own a brand-x, none of these things are cheap to restore. Have any of you ever done another GM A body restoration....In my opinion, us Buick people are pretty lucky considering the prices that most of our "GS specific" parts can be purchased for. A hood for $400-500..well, try a 70 442 W-25 hood....repros are 1100-1200+shipping(and they haven't been out that long)..used can run less or more depending on what the buyer wants. Ram air cleaners?? Once again, yes they now repro them but total cost can run $600 or so once you get everything....the metal base is specific for the 442 so you aren't done when you buy the repro plastic flapper assembly. Wheelwells, good luck in the Olds world!!! Repros still don't fit right after the second try at it and all we have to do is buy a patch panel for $30-60. Consoles?-same story...other than the fact that there are a milion more Olds consoles out there and they still sell for a lot more than the Buick consoles. This list goes on and on...fenders, etc. Hey, our decklids are repro'd and still available on a lot of other cars. I think the Pontiac GTO's are the same story...lot's of repro stuff but none of it is cheap. The other thing is that our cars have, arguably, a WHOLE lot LESS GS specific parts when compared to the GTO, 442, etc so there are a lot less pieces to buy. Sure, we don't have the repro stuff all available like the other guys but that is a function of demand..hopefully as more and more people get converted to the Buick camp and the restorations of these cars increase the demand will be there...but there's a trade off...these same converts will be competing with you for the non-repro'd parts...PRICES WILL GET HIGHER. This weekend I saw an experienced Olds owner buy a 70 W-25 hood from a guy (also experienced) for $600...with the knowledge that it had been repaired but still would not fit the car correctly+there were other areas on the hood in need of obvious repair...so this buyer will have to put more $ into it to try and get it right. I started thinking about the prices for GOOD Buick hoods and felt kind of lucky. In my opinion, all these cars (B-O-P) will have one or two parts that hard to find and expensive...just feel lucky that there aren't a whole lot more. Granted, we have some rather bizarre parts that are expensive(ie an overflow bottle-wow, what a performance enhancer that is!!) but it could be A WHOLE LOT WORSE! Thanks, Patton
Hmmmmm Larry and I were speaking about this last night. Its a real shame when you have a car and the parts are so expensive as to essentially be irreplaceable that you can't drive it. My GS cars are there and My T-Type is close behind. BTW, there's a 71 GS (might be a stage 1 even) for sale on ebay with a skylark grille. Unless I had a 71 grille put up, I would have to think long and hard about buying a 71 GS (AND THAT"S A SHAMEFUL SAD SITUATION!). The last time I saw a 71 GS grille for sale was at the Nats last year. And I stood there watching a guy count out 15 $100 bills as payment for it. Funny thing was that while it was undamaged, it was going to need repainting. Apparently, even shelf wear is enough wear to cause some NOS pieces to need attention prior to installation. Alan
I agree Patton, after hearing some of the stories about olds parts, we do have it pretty well. We don't have as much supply, but not nearly the demand either. It's harder to find buick stuff in a junkyard, but when you do, you are usually one of a few if not the only one looking for the stuff. It's all a trade-off.
The nos grill I got has some minor shelf wear. Most nos especially bigger painted pieces have some. I bought a nos grill for my 71 Torino cobra last year and it had some, and I complained about paying $300! I guess the guy I traded just wanted what he needed. Its not easy to find a nice custom grill either. It was in great shape, 2 small hairline cracks and could use a repaint. No broken or missing studs, no missing grill. A nice piece. he was considering hacking the Gs grill up to fix his custom grill! Glad its found a good home!!
Scott, I thought about it for a few days. I really tried to reconsider with an open mine. And after all the reconsidration,.................... IT STILL MAKES NO SENSE o No:
