Surprised there is no interest. A few asked about compression..... 8.5 compression. Could be good for stock replacement with today's fuel. Or....put some good flowing heads and make some good HP. Compression is only part of the whole performance picture. Only like 3% loss per point of compression. I knew a guy that put some great flowing Stage 2 heads on one of these shortblocks and ran high tens in the quarter in a full weight GS running on pump gas 93 octane. Bruce BQUICK JAGUICK

..yup, virgin stuff is good. They need to come apart before puting into service. One could check core shift if seriously building it buit heck how did they evermake it off ther dealer lot? Definately take a few minutes to address casting flash and grind out the lifter galley, install modern bearings, a new cam, timing chain, while at it check and fix align bore, ballance rods / crank, and try to find forged 4.3125" slugs.<--good luck. Know your limits with the stock cast pistons. still a damn good price for the virgin core...only a new 455 once. There is something to be said about a built 455 as we all know 462, 470,494...
Wow, no interest even at $900. You can't even buy a new crank for these or a new block...except TA alum. I paid $550 for just a new crank in 1982 when they were last available. Oh well I guess I'll drag it around for another 30 yrs.....if I live that long.ou:
I guess it's always worth something at the scrap yard. Would have thought a fully assembled new shortblock would always be good to have to plug in for a worn out one. I guess Buick motors last too long. o No: I'll try again in the spring after tax time.
I just purchased one locally still in the plastic and cosmoline.....what a pain to clean off. Block will be our foundation fir our new race motor
In the late 80's I think it was, GM was blowing these out for a couple hundred bucks a piece. I helped my brother load one into our basement. Nothing wrong with them. GM was just clearing them out.
I did sell it but not for what I wanted. The 455 crank was discontinued in the early 80s so I should have kept at least for that.
