    Hi there local Buick owners,

This coming Sunday, I'll be attending the 8th Annual North Shore Car Show. It's a low key affair; no entrance fee, no judging, but, fun, nonetheless. Last year, Doug F. happened upon the show, with his 1967 Electra convertible.
For this year, we can meet at the White Spot Restaurant at Park Royal Mall in West Vancouver at 10:30 a.m. for breakfast. Then, we can caravan together to the show area, less than one mile away.
The show is open to the public from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.. It's recommended you be at the show at noon, if you'd like to display your car. The show will be held on the southside of the North Shore Auto Mall. Take Marine Drive, then head south on Fell Avenue to the foot of Fell and Harbourside Drive and Harbourside Place. Here's a link for directions:

If you plan to attend, please respond to this thread. Hope to see you there!

    Nando.

I've edited my original thread to display a better map of where the show will be held. This show is hosted by the Lions Gate Model A Club and Totem Model A & T Club. Explains why there was a bit of a pause when I spoke to the club's contact person and I told him I'd be attending in my 1986 GN. So expect to see lots of old iron... and I do mean iron!

    Hi Johnny,

Yes, this is the only way I can think of to keep the kms. low on my GN, and still enjoy it. Gotta think of resale value. Here's a couple of pictures, and news story to follow tomorrow. I did make it to the show at about 2 p.m..

Re: North Shore Antique/Collector/Custom/Hotrod Show, Sunday, Aug. 30, N. Vancouver,

    Hi all,

Did we draw bad karma this day? This was an impromptu event for a few of us local Buick owners to get together, and enjoy a Sunday afternoon at the North Shore harbour front. The idea was fine: meet at a restaurant for breakfast, then caravan to the show area, about a mile away. I did have an informal commitment of five Buicks to attend, but that plan didn't take long to unravel.

My best friend and his wife, accompanied Geri and I, in the GN, as I headed to fuel up before heading to Vancouver, some 40 minutes south of Squamish. All filled up with 94 octane, the GN was rarin' to go. Not more than 1 minute into the trip - blahhhh! I coasted to the unpaved shoulder; the engine stalled with a fuel problem. How was I sure the problem was fuel-related? This has happened before. Cranking the V-6 showed no fuel pressure on the guage on the fuel rail, and I didn't hear the fuel pump energize when the ignition switch was turned on. Now, the old fix, as I've been told by many, is to rap the bottom-side of the mid-section of the fuel tank with a rubber-headed mallet. Hold it... so besides my jack and spare tire, I must carry a hammer in the trunk, as well! Disconnecting and reconnecting the fuel pump relay didn't help. I forgot to bring the extra relay, as I'm sure the existing one had never been changed. Fortunately, many passer-bys who recognized us, stopped to assist, but I had already called B.C.A.A. for a tow. Thanks to Geri's membership I wouldn't have to pay for the privelege of, once again, hauling the GN to the shop to be repaired.

While waiting for the truck to arrive, I called Johnny to tell him of my predicament, as he was driving his '64 Skylark and would be passing by us, on his way to the show. But, Johnny responded, "She's not turning over. I left my ignition on, probably, from last Sunday. Don't know if I'll be making it". Next call was to Joe, who had just put his '71 on the road, and was looking forward to showing off the GSX-styled Buick. And the news just kept getting better; as he had to turn around, while he was enroute to North Vancouver with the 455 a-sputtering, and remarked, "You know, I think I've got a fuel pump problem, too". Oh wow, surely, good ol' Doug would already be at the show with his '67 Electra convertible. And my call to him revealed ... " Nando, I left you a message on your cell, yesterday. I can't drive; I broke my right ankle". I didn't bother phoning Steve, who I had just met, and lived a short distance away from the show area. He was bringing his dad's 1987 GN, which the family had since new. At this point, I was resigned to the fact: none of us would be meeting at the show, at all.

Low and behold, less than an hour after the breakdown, up pulls Johnny in the Bird, afterall. You can imagine all the wise-cracks. But, we laughed along with Johnny, at how the day had regressed.
The flat deck soon arrived, and I was fortunate enough in having the GM dealer service manager, Terry, meet me at the shop. He's a Squamish car club member, too. As the GN was completely backed off the deck, my friend, Chad says, " Betcha a twoonie it'll start up". Of couse, it did start, and I drove into the service bay without a problem.

With the GN safely tucked away, I explained to Terry what had happened, and would follow up with him the next day. So off to the show we went... with the wagon.

Although, Joe H. with his 1971 GSX-styled Buick, didn't make it to this meet, I thought I'd post a few pictures he e-mailed me of his car.

I'll also post a picture of Doug F.'s 1967 Electra convertible. This photo was taken at the Sleepy Hollow Rod Run in Sechelt on August 8th. His family, Geri and I, had a great weekend on the Sunshine Coast.

Re: North Shore Antique/Collector/Custom/Hotrod Show, Sunday, Aug. 30, N. Vancouver,

Geri and I are pretending to own this 1956 Buick Roadmaster parked at the show. The owners, Fred and Trudy Dunn, have a few older GM models, including a 1953 Skylark. All Skylarks that year were convertibles, and only 1,690 were produced.

The Dunns helped run the B.C. chapter of the McLaughlin Buick Club of Canada. The chapter had disbanded years ago, but during its' active life, while I was Mainland Director of the B.C. Buick G.S. Club, we had many successful co-chapter meets.

Too bad we arrived towards the close of the show. This was a great little meet! I had a very engaging talk with the owner of the touring 7-passenger 1911 Rolls Royce. Last year, he travelled to Armstrong along the windy, and steep-graded Duffy Lake Road. Top speed on the freeway: 45 m.p.h.. You certainly have to be careful not to snag a splinter while you're detailing the wood rims!

What a fiasco! Chances of all you having problems at the same time have to be astronomical:Dou: At least you sucked it up & had a good time anyway:TU:

    Hi Jamie,

I must be getting old, because 20 years ago I wouldn't have had the patience and maturity to deal with the day's events. However, on Friday I did swap the insurance onto the GS, and parked the GN. I did replace the fuel pump relay, and it drove as it should. Wouldn't you know it, the GN wouldn't stall while the service technician had it, before the relay was replaced.

Just to defend the Electra, it is/was running with no issue whatsoever... Like a Champ! It was the operator who was broken down :Dou: I tried to convince my father to drive us out to the show but he had other plans. Glad to hear the GN is back in the stable Nando.

    Hi Doug,

Does it look like you'll make it up to Squamish for Rumble to the Rock on September 20th? For the show, I may put a permit on the GN to support the event. Geri will bring the GS.
I'm in Falkland visiting my friends, and will be heading home later today. Went to the local A&W restaurant in Vernon last night and there was a mini car show going on. Each Tuesday afternoon/evening the locals gather for a showing. Didn't bring the camera, but there were 4 Buicks there: Chris N. with his 1970 Stage 1, a couple with a red 1967 Skylark convertible, John with his red 1970 455-powered Skylark, and us in the GS. Going to Kelowna this afternoon. Apparently, John has sighted a new Buick in Kelowna. It's a Saturn Yellow 1970 GSX, and there is another GSX, besides this one.

    Take care,

    Nando.

    Nando;
The Squamish show is up in the air a little. I will have my cast off by then, but I'm not sure how the ankle will hold up on a longish drive. The weather will play a role as well. Of course, I'm working on obtaining a little wagon which if I get, will take the weather out of the equation. When you get back in town, give me a call as I want to run a few questions past you given your wagon experience. :beer

    Hi Doug,

Maybe you should recategorize- an Electra Wagon aint no small wagon. Let me know closer to the date you'd like to check out the wagon, and we can arrange to look it over together.

Hope you "heel" up before the show.
