no spark from the coil wire, was running crane xri like the pertronic, changed out the whole unit, changed coils, changed coil wire. tried to ground distr and breaker plate. put 12 volt wire from positive battery to positive of coil. put a different distr in with breaker points. think the problem is theres always voltage to the points open or closed.plus with test light on neg of coil the light never goes off while cranking. really going nuts here. any help would be truly a life saver.

Did the problem occur in conjunction with other work or it just started? Is the distributor turning while cranking?

With points, if either the - coil wire, or the condenser wire terminal is touching the breaker plate, there will be no spark. Check for pinched wires. Also check point gap always.

Just need to follow each wire from the coil to its origin. Is the wire from coil to starter solonoid on wrong side of solonoid? Dosent the neg side go to the distrubeter condenser of the points? That may be fryied

    1. Electronic module toast.
    2. Points have no continuity to ground--perhaps the point dwell is way off and the points never close, or the points are contaminated and won't conduct electricity.
    3. DISTRIBUTOR ISN'T TURNING because of a failed roll-pin on distributor gear.

put the first dist back in the wouldn't start with the crane xri and the new fast xri and then got another new one so thats three. would not start. put the points in started right up. guess i will just run the points it never started that fast with the xri. could one old one and two new ones all be bad.

I don’t have any experience with the Crane unit but the Lectric Limited breakerless ignition has been foolproof for me.

Does this unit use magnets or slots to trigger. The magnet type needs a correct gap between the disk and the pickup.

Yes, it's possible all three are defective.

I don't think it's likely. I'd be looking at a mistake in the installation--wiring, physical location of parts, etc.

its a module with a eye, nothing goes on the dist lobes. only two wires black yellow to - coil and black red to +coil. it reads the high spot of the lobe. bought some standard brand points for now will get a better set when i read up on them, right now am just burnt out lol. runs great starts right up and no break up [bounce] at 5500 rpms. still running the crane ps20 coil for a little extra spark. Schurkey the only adjustment is moving the module farther and closer to the dist lobe. the old one work for over a year.
