Need your help. I can push the pedal almost to the floor. There is literally no resistance and very limited stopping power at the wheels. Resevoir si ful and I have pumped and pumped while parked on a clean garage floor and I cannot see any leakage. My mechanic assumes that a/the sealing of the M/C fails? Does that make sense? THX Patrick
Yup, makes sense. For the described behavior 2 seals in the m/c have to have gone bad, otherwise either the front or the rear part of the brake sytem would still work.
ok. Thanks for the prompt response. Guess replacing seals is not possible, advisable, economical? So I should probably get new one asap...
I don't really oversee the parts availability for our Buicks when it comes to M/Cs and/or rebuild kits - others might chime in here. The rebuild process by itself is not difficult but depends on the condition of the bore hole in the M/C.
Your master cyl. pistons probably look like this....and if they do, you probably won't be able to hone bore , replace pistons, and stay in spec. Time for new, unless you want to pay the expense to sleeve it.
Mart, how old is that piece of history? Looks like it served decades or there anything that makes the pistons corrode like this?
Original 71 pwr drum brake master guts. Can't say exactly how long ago I replaced the master, abt 10-15 yrs maybe. Brake fluid can absorb moisture. Guess that's what starts the corrosion. Brakes lines were replaced also.
