Don't Know? I believe its a relax get together day as this was mentioned in the Xtra. Travel 16-17+ hours to relax? I want to race, that's how I relax!

Anyway. They must have a good reason and I'm sure they will address it.

Now for the Norwalk Event You now have (4) Days of racing with a killer show! Thursday's BPG runs all day Buick only test and tune, with some specialty races. Friday then kicks off the Norwalk Event part with Buick only racing all day with a Woman's Challenge and an East v. West run off along with open time shots. Now don't hold me to this but I believe the track is open for general racing on Saturday so us die-hards can go and beat up on the Chevies and Mopars, or you can elect to enter or visit the outstanding all Buick car show. Then on Sunday you have the final competition classes of all Buicks only again racing!

Wow! Four days of racing! And some 6 hours closer to the east coast!:TU:

    Friday

I figured that the no racing on Friday had something more to do with the car show. If that's the case, why not just have a long 2 hour break in racing or a Friday night social at the track? I don't run it, but sometimes I don't under the GSCA either.

It may be they are trying to build up the show more. I know some years back in the eighties they held the car show at one of the mall parking lots. It was nice there as you didn't have to deal with dirt, dust and grass, plus plenty of food venders, music and a clean area set up for the parts venders and you were close to all the stores. The wives loved that

Then after, the show moved to Beech Bend, the track part was still closed, but we were set up at a field near the track. But the track was like a magnet to the Buick guys, so what followed in up coming years was we moved down to the circle and grass area near the track, plus to handle a larger amount of show cars.

Then of course the track was opened only on a test and tune for one or two of the big guns, so there was something to watch. But as the years went by this grew and before long the track was open to everyone while the show went on. It took alot from the show, I remember it was a problem as people would pull out of the show to race and then return. I'm sure that got the strictly show guys mad (rightfully so) as we would be pulling in and out we would be kicking up dust.

Maybe doing this is to prevent such problems and to give some equal time to the show aspect of the event. Like anything else it will have it's ups and down sides. My biggest question would be the rain factor. What are the plans if and hopefully not it rains. Is Friday an emergency day to be used for racing , And would the show be moved to Saturday?

Alan you hit on a very good idea :TU: They should have the track open for test and tune, grudge runs etc late afternnon into early evening for just a few hours after the show. And maybe to give out the show awards there after the test and tune session along with a nice party at the track with food, music etc. Sort of killing 3 birds with one stone. It would be a packed day with a show, some relaxed racing, awards ceremony and a nice party. All in one. Just like you said, a Friday night social at the track. I like that!:TU:

Well I guess we will only happen to wait and see. Unfortunately the event schedule may already be written in stone.

Alan are you going to attend Norwalk? If so I owe ya a few drinks:beer

    Nats

I agree, Rick. Have the show Friday morning first thing and right after lunch, start the racing into early evening. Around 6pm to 7pm, they could start having the social and do the awards to the show winners. The only thing about a show at a different location than the track for me would be the vending thing. Its much too hard and difficult to relocate our stuff.

When is Norwalk? I won't be at Bristol this year, but maybe I can make Norwalk. I wasn't under the impression that it was more than a friday afternoon and all day sat. race event. Norwalk is a long way for me to go for a 1.5 day event. Of course, my wife's family is in Erie, PA and we go smack through Ohio on the way. Start in Cinci, then Columbus, then Cleveland. If its a summer date, then we could do it on the way up.

Thanks for reminding me on the beers.......BTW, I like Killian's Red, a good Irish Recipe!

For what it's worth, I've put in my .02's worth. The attendance has fallen off enough thru the years already, they can't afford another phiasco. (SPELLING??):jd:

They need to keep the racing on Friday. PERIOD!!

    info

Norwalk. BPG test and tune is May 1st. Test and Tune Friday May 2nd. Car show Sat. May 3rd and RaceDay is Sun May 4th.

The Beech Bend web site states that they are running circle track cars on Fridays starting May 16th. Could be the reason the GSCA wants a rest and relaxation day.

    Re: info

Well, if they do the circle track stuff, none of the vendor's product will be safe to leave out like in the past. Hell, I'd probably even want to pull my trailer back to the hotel so it doesn't get hauled away and stolen.

I think this is a HUGE mistake if true. I'll seriously have to reconsider attending the event.

Hey all, all your concerns should be voiced on the GSCA forum, venting here, does none of us any good. The issue is with the 'Powers that be' as quoted previously, to vent here is not a good thing, as it does nothing to change things, and I am not going to promote Norwalk as an alternative, as I have already been part of the 10 things not to do, in the GSXTRA, you all can do that, I have been to the GS Nats, since 1985, as I said in my post on the GSCA board, which you can read for yourself! Concerns about the GS Nats, respectively need to be posted on the GSCA Board not here! So go there and voice your opinion while they are listening. RV

    WoW, Ought oh!

But John, why are you dumping here? I've heard all this for years, as have you and others, it does no good for any of us, the BPG is a good thing, but has to grow with time, throwing rocks at the other group doesn't help our respect for the other side that tried to do the right thing, maybe it's failing, but some how there's growth within it all, that can be managed, we need to look at the mission of each group, and whether that group really has a mission, whether it be to grow together and have joint intiatives like to make repo parts, have a great race week or just getogether and BS, and race, there's room for all of that, if we just work together, the biggest frustration here is how many people we are not hearing from, the majority want to race, show, talk the talk, see their friends, have a really good time, and really enjoy the fact that we all love our Buicks, whether we race, show, go, restore, hot rod, or just make 'em the way we want, we can all enjoy, relax, appreciate the restored, hot rodded, raced, driver, resto, no matter what it is but a Buick we what to see it and glow, that's it's one like we have or would like to have. Roberta: As you can see, I deleted the post. I didn't want to vent on the GSCA board and get the BPG blasted for my opinions. Therefore, I picked this thread. Also, I didn't read your thread prior to posting. Cooler heads prevail. How many times can they shoot themselves in the foot?

    welp

Wow Roberta, all kidding aside you are correct. I think what most guys on this thread are just voicing an opinion, though I do agree their opinion or I should say suggestions should go to the GSCA site and for them to call on the o'le telephone. But as long as the suggestions and opinions are not abusive to each other, so be it. Though you are correct on that point.

Alan I believe Renee posted the dates above as the BPG starts off on Thursday May 1st as a nice warm-up for the Norwalk Buick Event which kicks off the following day. Just to add I believe the track is also open on Saturday to anyone, if they desire to continue to pound their Buick. Then the final racing is on Sunday. Roberta may know more on the Saturday racing. I would prefer attending the show to browse the nice cars and to see what bargains are out by the venders. Plus I want to see that nice 455 block by Jim Burek (I believe he plans on bringing a prototype of one there). Plus the 4 bolt main block will be on hand along with the TA aluminum heads and all the other goodies:grin:

Almost forgot, Alan I'll make sure I'll have Killian's Red on hand :TU:
