Sorry to hear about the retards racing in the staging lanes and causing damage to some of our racers .I hope they are forced to pay for damage and are kicked out and banned.

Sorry to see that. I wonder how it will work out at far as collecting for damages.

Photo from Facebook of Chris Smetana's Pontiac. It looked like Chris's car was pushed into the rear of Don Gianone's 66 Chevelle. There were other race cars involved.

We were just 1 car away from disaster. Never seen anything like that in person. Unreal that no one was standing there as we were closer to the front talking with other drivers. Could have been much worse.......

Looks like we will see what is going to happen today as far as how this is all going to be handled.

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

Those involved should pay for all damages, and be banned for life at any event. Just plain stupidity. Witness said that there was a Mustang and a Vette doing holeshots coming into the staging lanes. Comments on what should be done to the drivers are pretty explicit.

    Man, that SUCKS !

Unless Chris and Don got a handful of cash on the spot, I'm betting they'll never hear from those knuckleheads again. :af:

my poor car :ball: I'm not a happy camper to put it mildly. The resto shop which has my W-31 emailed me saying they saw a video of the car in the staging lane accident. I will be calling them tomorrow to set up an appointment to drop the car off and see what needs to be done. Seriously doubt the car will be ready for Stanton (and that REALLY pisses me off). I told this to Chuck Watson, the driver of the mustang in the rear of my car, and founder of Watson Engineering and Watson Racing just south of Detroit. He has talked to everyone who was an innocent bystander in the incident and vowed to make it right. Don G and I feel much better about this. But obviously actions will speak louder than words.

In addition to the obvious damage in the pictures, I was looking at the front end of the car a little closer earlier tonight. I noticed a dent in the front bumper which cracked the chrome. The front bumper is definitely tweaked too as it's into the header panel on the driver side. This makes sense because the impact push me hard enough into Don's car to put a very big dent in his bumper, dented the chrome trim, tail panel, trunk lid and kinked the qtr on his car.

My car needs to go on a frame rack. The bumper is on the gas cap so I can't put fuel in it. The rear frame cross member is also bent and not sure if it got into the frame rail. Tailpipe is bent and against the drive rear tire. Since it's an x-pipe system, it's all tried together and sitting lower from the impact. I need to check the exhaust manifolds and see if it's stressing those. The header panel and hood are beyond kissing each other as it look 30 mins to open the hood. I removed the latch and only the hood pins are holding it down now. This doesn't even take into consideration the NOS driver qtr on the car (the sticker is still on the back from the early 80s install, I showed it to Chuck) and the fact the driver door can't open.

    Chris,
Hoping you and don are ok. I also hope that things will be made right as far as your cars go. Sad to see things like this happen.

    Chris,
I am BEYOND P-_I-_S-_S-_E-_D that this happened! :af:
I don't think I could have kept my composure. If you need any help with your car at Trips let me know.
It will be interesting to hear what excuse is put forward as to why this happened!

Chris, were there two separate crashes ? It looks like one involved the Mustang, your car, and the Chevelle in front of you. The other looks like the black Corvette hit the pink Mustang, which then pushed it into the white Mustang.

Were you able to tell what caused the whole thing ?

Chris, we feel for you, still shocked as I was right there. Both the Mustang and Corvette ran into several cars. Hoping the guy will do what he says and you get your car back the way you want it. I thought you handled things extremely well considering what happened. You must have scared the heck out of the guy in the Vette since he jumped out of the car, over the fence and ran off....

um, the mustang at a higher than safe rate of speed smacks the rear of my car while I was standing two cars in front of it minding my own business

one incident, involving the black corvette and gray/black mustang initially. The vette went left and nailed the pink mustang rather hard while the black/gray mustang nailed me. I was pushed into Don G chevelle. The pink mustang went into the passenger side of a white mustang cobra. The white mustang went into the rear of a red cobalt. The cobalt went into a camaro. 8 cars total including the two cars traveling at a high rate of speed in the staging lanes.

yellowbullet had a big thread, with the usual bs, conspriacy theories and some very interesting truth. you just have to put the wadders on. I'm not on facebook but understand there is a huge discussion/thread there, somewhere. I will be at the Pure Stocks, so we can touch base then.

That pretty much sums it up Joe. I'll be at Tri Power Wednesday with the car. Both cars at the shop at the same time, wtf :Dou:

Watson racing has released a statement. I think it's on Hot Rod facebook page.
And a person at the race and in the staging lanes at the time has called it a lie. you can read it on the yellowbullet thread.

Sorry to hear you guys had trouble. I saw something similar happen at Englishtown many years ago, very scary indeed. I hope everything works out correctly for the cars that got hit.
