I was corresponding about a year ago with an Electra owner in Russia, who had knowledge of the original auction of that vehicle, and said it went for around $15,000 US.
I don't think I would want it personally, I LOVE Electras, however ther stigma given off by Ceasescu would be too much. He was really a corrupt human being who ran his nation like a giant slave colony. His obsession w/economic growth by forcing teens to have children (so there would be more workers in the factories and refineries, which didn't work because they needed resources to raise the children) bred a crisis that is still being dealt w/ today. Orphanages in that nation are overflowing w/kids that were abandoned in the streets during his reign of terror (Romania was probably the strictest of the Soviet Republics). Plus when the economy started flying apart, he instituted austerity programs of extreme cruelty (strict rationing of food, heating, and even housing space; exasterbated by the population growth) while he and his extended family lived in splendor and luxury. He deserved what he got in 1989, atleast thats how I feel. Sorry to go on but I mean he was a truely horrible monster. Patrick
The atrocities were legendary and most were never made public. His sadistic son brutally raped, and tortured the country's greatest olympic hero(Nadia Comaneche I think) for years until she finally had to flee the country. If George W. had been president then we would have taken him down instead of his own people. Death to all tyrants.

Nixon? I remember reading in Motor Trend duriing the early 70's that Nixon was giving Monte Carlo's and Eldorados to the head of Russia, for goodwill perhaps. Maybe other dictators got jealous and wanted some American iron to impress their comrades with?
