Hey guys. I've been reading this weekend, and wanted to join this forum. It looks like there are some knowledgeable folks in here. I'm not new to cars, but I am new to the V8 Buick. I've owned several Hotrods, and built a few SBC's & BBC's, I've also learned alot about the Buick LC2 Turbo 6 in my GN, but that's a different animal. I'm in the process of building a 455 to install in my 1978 Buick Century 2dr. Aeroback. I need to gather knowledge, and parts. It looks like this is the place for the know how, and TA Performance is the place for the parts. Here's what I'm starting with....

It's a runner/driver with a lame 3.8L with only 71K miles on it. Arizona car is almost rust free. I am going to restomod this car, but want to drive it regularly. I will have plenty of questions regarding 455 combos/recipes. I haven't decided on transmission yet. The car has a 3 speed shifter on the column, and think it would be a little "sleepy" to keep it. So a built TH350/400 may go in. A 4 speed overdrive with console shifter ( I have one ) may go in as well. Either way, my buddy is a transmission builder by trade, so I have it covered. I feel a 8.5 rear from a GN will suffice. That's my basic plan. Thanks in advance! James-

Welcome! There are very knowledgeable people here, of which I am not one, but as a starter you will need 455 engine mounts. They could potentially be used from a 73-74 Century with a 455.

Thanks John. The 455 motor I have came with some mounts ( block & frame ). I figured I would have to fit the motor to my liking, and then mark and drill the holes. If anybody here has a 455 swapped GBody, please enlighten me.

I like it! And welcome! Starc Traxler is a member here, he just retored a beautiful Century Turbo Coupe. Based upon his experience your biggest challenge will be interior and trim. Otherwise it’s a G body, and almost every part for almost every drivetrain swap is available. I’ve seen 455 BBB powered Regals and El Caminos, and any number of suspension and brake combos from factory parts bin digging (jounce bars, frame stiffeners, engine bay braces, fast ratio boxes, etc) to all out aftermarket swaps. You also will have trouble getting it to hook-they’re light, and a well built 455 will cause excessive rear tire wear.

Thanks Patrick. I've seen pics of Starc's car on the web. I've been able to source most all the interior parts I need except for a headliner - nobody reproduces one, and it is specific to this body only. I own a restomod GN, so I'm aware of all the factory parts that you mentioned, and have them all except the rear seat braces - which I will probably buy from Kirban. An HR rear sway bar ( frame mounted ), air bag on pass. side, and drag radials should help with the traction issue.

Hi John, We may be part of the Buick family, and extended family, as well... Most of my family is from Jacksonville, and some in Miami.

James Carroll, how are you this awesome Friday? Great I hope. Saw your post again so I thought I'd blab some more. I was born in Miami in 1957. Luckily my dad got a promotion and was transferred to Palm Beach County in 1970. We thought we brought "the flag with us," but now you tell us there are more Americans being held hostage down there. Dang, that's not good!
I met another Buick family member a mile away from me here in Lake Worth. Milton, AKA Stump Puller on the board. Turns out he lived about a half mile away from me in Miami when we were kids. Small world!
I'm going to share a picture with you all. It was taken during Hurricane Irma last year. We were all partying in our friends garage watching it storm out front. In the picture is my son, John Carroll and his son, John Carroll. We're not very creative, or we're stuck on one name! We do all have different middle names so we go by JC1, JC2, and JC3. Have a GREAT weekend!!! (Is the a Budweiser in that kids hand?) 4917a.JPG

Thanks again for the replies. Although I'm not necessarily a "fan", I am familiar with the band. His name is James, also. RIP brother.

And John.. Lol, that's good stuff. I'm hoping that's a Coke in JC3's hands :D.

Welcome from west Michigan, John. I've owned some G bodies as well, but only one Aeroback. It was a 4dr. Cutlass Salon.

Thanks Jerry. I love my GBody's. The Aero cars are a love / hate body style, but you don't see them around anymore, so I decided I would own the 1st Buick GBody ('78) and the last Buick GBody ('87). Any chance you have a reason to get to the Eastern side ( Twining ) ? I got a guy over there with some parts I would love to have, but he won't ship..:(

There are some members over on the east side who may be able to pick them up, James.
