Hello from Montana. It started with a search for a 53. After three years of looking I’ve some how ended up with the car of my dreams and two nailheads. Neither are running at the moment. I’m so happy I found this forum. I’ve lurked for a bit and finally joined. Seems like a good gathering of folks and more knowledge in one place then I’ve been able to find anywhere else. I’m a total noob too anything with an engine but hope to contribute when I can. I’ve got a 53 56R with a 322 and a 425 waiting in the wings. Sorry if the photos are to big. I’m a noob at that too.
A great bunch of guys and welth of knowledge. Tom Telesco is a member; "teleriv". Dave is a member; "dual-quadism" Dennis is a member, "Wheelz" Russell Martin of Centerville Auto Repair, is another nailhead expert. http://centervilleautorepair.com Read everything on his site. twice... All of these guys are tremendous source of information on the Nailheads, as are several other folks.
Thanks for the welcome. TM I’ve been to Martins site several times and continue to read his facts. I’ll be in Da nailhead section a lot I think. So much to know with these engines. Cobravii I’m back and forth in the state of Montana from Bozefornia to the Great Falls. I’m hoping the 425 is everything I hope it’ll be.
Tom,I know it won't be. I've got an ST400 I want to put behind it and I'm looking at my options for swapping out the torque tube for the open drive. Big Buick 60s rear end or something with trailing arms. I'd like to keep it all Buick. First thing I'm going to do is see if my 425 is all it was said it was. I'll be tearing into that soon. I have to get my old truck out of the garage first. Wait, I guess the 425 is the second thing I'll be doing. I have a lot of searching and studying to do. Also, do you still rebuild AFBs? As you can see mine are a little ruff around the edges.
YES I DO!!! You should go to TeamBuick & look at Jacob's post about installing a Jag FRONT & REAR SUSPENSION. A lot easier than you would think. He did it to a '56 Century. Basically the same as yours.
Tom, thanks I will do that. I may even have a line on a Jag from a coworker although I’m not sure of the year. I’m glad to hear you rebuild. I’d like to keep the engine as original as possible. Everything matches right now. Wasn’t sure where to take them. Being located where I’m at geographically it’s difficult to find folks who have any knowledge with these nailheads. Gsfred and 2001ws6 thanks for the welcome.
Thanks Bob, I split my time between Bozeman and Great Falls. Mostly GF now. The engine came out of Oregon. It’s kind of sad but typical. Sat in a field for way to long rotting away. Not sure the owner who sold it to the gentleman I purchased it from knew much about it. The engine was about the only thing left to recover.
