As the heading says,I was wondering on what's the best way to sell a car on ebay.list it for a week? Can you list it longer? I see some are on with no countdown time? If you don't put a reserve do you end before time runs out if it doesn't get to where you want it to? How do you get a seller rating? Thanks but so far i'm not seeing it! =ebay sales...

I've been a seller since 2002. Ending a listing early because it does not reach your goal is considered to be bad etiquette.spend the extra few $'s and put in your reserve price or list as Buy it Now. You can list in some categories "run until it sells" others 10 days is the max. Ebay will take a big chunk of your final selling price so be prepared for that. You earn seller rating through feedback that buyers leave for you. No matter how hard you try to please some buyers and describe your items some will leave neg or neutral which does not help you. Ebay is going to side with the buyer 90% of the time.Good luck!

I've been an ebay seller for about 17 years and have sold several vehicles. Briz has given you good info but currently ebay only charges $125 for selling a vehicle over $2,000. Not too bad IMO.

there are times when ebay charges $50 to sell a car..so its cheap..they dont charge a percentage anymore on a car..no one would list them...July-Aug is a horrible time to sell..the site is dead, just plain dead

dont put a reserve on it, just list it for what ya want and ad "or best offer"...jack it up a little (10-15%) let people make offers, get a conversation going...let them bargain a little, let them feel like they have a little control..

start it on thursday at 9 pm western time... run it 10 days that gives 2 weekends to find it..

letting it run forever or 30 days is a prob..it gets lost...theres 2 times when it will get the most views..the first 2 days and the last 2 days..its just how it works..by having it on there 2 weekends, it gives plenty of time for the right person to find it

everyone that buys is sick of reserves, auctions ending early etc..

an old trick was to end it early but in the add have a phone number...now ebays new policy is if you have a number they delete it..not just stop it..but delete it from the system..and they enforce it

write up an add...post it here...we can critique it

BUT...if its a buick list it here too..some people just dont look at ebay all the time.....where else is it better to sell a buick, than a buick site? Then link the auction here,,,its a little incentive for someone to actually complete the deal

dont be surprised if it sells and the buyer flakes..it may take a couple times to get it done..it happens, just follow ebays guidelines on reporting a non-pay and it wont cost you a dime

as far as a seller rating..you earn it...the more ya sell..the more ya get..

and ebay is still absolutely the best venue, theres millions of viewers, and open the auction up to international..by sticking to the US market, you cut 1/2 of the potential buyers off..just be specific on what ya want..ad the rules you want and keep an open mind..dont get in a hurry..never stop an auction let it run..

research research research...dont throw it out there..view auctions like your car and see who is successful, and why, you will see a pattern..be patient..dont just stop the auction unless you get exactly what you want with a make offer..and realize..people will worm their way in there and make retarded offers, like you pay ship etc..just state what ya want and stick to it BE FLEXIBLE...if they want a pic, or want to send a guy to inspect it, or ask for a week to get transport figured out..state what ya want..put a limit...be specific..

it will work, ya gotta be flexible..stiff rigid rules that are impossible to work with will get you bad results

AVOID THE WALL OF WORDS..IF YOUR DESCRIPTION IS AS LONG AS WHAT IVE TYPED...ITS TOO MUCH..pictures..load up pics..get a photobucket acct...i think you get 12 or 20 with ebay for a car, i cant remeber, with a photobucket acct, you can put way more...

X2!! Great advice. I can only add that the pics should be the highest quality and resolution you can get. Poor pics mean poor response (or no response) and low offers. Be sure to include the engine bay, the interior, and the undercarriage. The more the merrier.

I got the most bang for my buck when selling my old 72 Stage 1 4-speed with a 7 day listing - starting at 10:30 (EST) on a Sunday night. The two weekend idea is good as well.

The late start time allows for potential bidders on the West Coast to finish up their weekend, per say and settle in near the end of the auction.

Pictures, pictures and MORE pictures. You want to minimize the questions that interested parties might have. Be as forthcoming as possible. Post photos of every conceivable area of the car you can think of. Good, bad or otherwise. If you don't have a Photobucket, get one. That allows you to post as many pictures as you'd like for free. Google "Photobucket in an eBay auction" for tips on that.

Upload some video to YouTube of the car cold starting, driving & shifting, stopping & and turning and then Google "embedding YouTube video to eBay auction" so you can include the videos in your auction.

Think of this whole thing as a virtual test drive.

Include photos of any documentation you might have as well or at least mention them in what should be a very detailed description of the car.

Good luck and as stated above, post prior to listing for feedback.

You may not sell the car on eBay, but you are getting national (and more) advertising. Potential buyers may be contacting you after the auction ends.
