So picked up a new to me 69 GS350 TH350 on the column. I grew up in a GM town were they made Firebirds and Camaros which I love but everyone had/has one. I always wanted a GS and the 68 69 body style was my favorite. Because of this I probably purchased a little to much of a project but I am still excited. So my goal for now is to just make it reliable and safe to drive. It does run well but the transmission was sluggish and I am having that rebuilt now. When I get it back I want to prioritize things on the driveline for reliability, drive ability and making it safe. I am thinking of starting with the brake system and then moving to the suspension front first then rear. Looking forward to learning from those that have been there before.
"...but everyone had/has one." Yep. And one big reason I prefer Buicks. That's a good looking starting point you have there. Hello from da south.
Welcome from Montana! Sounds like you've got a solid plan and doing things in the proper order. Make a thread down in the members rides section once you get started so we can follow along and you'll get a lot more help there as you need it.
My name is Von and I will add that to my profile and start a thread when I get started. Thanks for the welcome!
Welcome to the family, Von! Your car looks like a pretty good starting point. Doesn't look like a basket case. May want to think about bypassing the Trans cooler in the radiator and mounting an external cooler. Be a shame to ruin a new transmission by running the fluid through a caked up or dirty original cooler. Depending on how the car has been used/stored you'll want to focus on everything that has or uses fluid, i.e. brakes, wheel cylinders, tubes and lines, master cylinder, etc., fuel system, tank, filter, lines, carb, etc., cooling system, radiator, hoses, heater core, etc. check your tires for cracks or dry-rot. Focus on getting it safe then move to getting it in top running condition, then on to handling/appearance. Good luck with everything, Philip T.
Welcome aboard from The great broke state of New Jersey looks like a fine starting point is that the original color like a dark gray ? I've always been a fan of the 70 through 72 body style but a buddy of mine has a black 69 GS 400 convertible with white roof and white bucket seat interior car is dead gorgeous.
Perfect response and #1 reason why I bought my first buick gs. Because everyone else had chevelles and fire chickens. Love it when someone refers to my gn as "nice Monte"
My friend just picked up a 1970 Buick 2 yeas ago and is makeing a pro touring car out of it. I haven't seen it since last fall but was by his place a week ago and his engine stand was sitting out side so I am sure the engine is in it now. I really like that style too. No way ypou can mistake it as a Chevell. Al
