Carl Hiaasen is one of my favorite writers, his characters are lifted straight out of the ‘you can’t make this up’ parts of Florida. Fred would fit right in! Patrick
"'cuz I'd figure someone like Fred would probably not respond too well to all them "ejaculated liar types" and get into fist fights." I done been misquoted...love how spell check does things, but in this case, I can't disagree. It's better than the original.
Contrast him with Gwinnett County, Georgia. The sheriff there just spent confiscated drug money buying himself a Charger Hellcat. When questioned, his staff said it would be used for outreach programs and such, but so far it’s been his driver. http://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/i-team/feds-gwinnett-sheriff-s-hellcat-violates-drug-money-rules Patrick
Well the race for sheriff is on again. We have the current sheriff Sam St John. Sam is doing a OK job and most of the deputy's like and respect him. Shawn Hingson is running again. Dont really know much about his background. I think he was a captain in the dept prior to the last election cycle. And of course we still have Fred. Running on the same platform. Legalize weed! Butttt, wait, There is also a bill up for the vote that would make recreational weed legal here. So I think that would shoot a hole in Freds platform. Anyway, I'll get a picture of one of his new campaign signs while I traveling around the county this coming week
Sheriff before you retire, escort Fred to the state line and give him the BOOT. Sometimes you just have to judge a book by its cover.
I agree on Hiaasen. He has the most imaginative ways to kill off characters who are dirtbags of just about any author that I have read. He is also an environmentalist and isn't crazy about the wildly excessive destruction of wildlife habitat that is going on here in Florida. His brother was shot to death in a mass-shooting at a newspaper office in Maryland.
In my travels over the last few weeks I passed by Freds house and his new sign. The new place is a huge step up from his old digs. That single wide sits close to the road, white washed and had the same sort of stuff written / painted all over it. Later I saw one of the road side signs. I got a kick out of it.
Seems after Fred's defeat in his bid for state house he took a break. But now he's back. New platform, same Fred. First of his signs I've seen. You go boy!
Oh boy, this ought to be good...can't wait to see more! Wonder how much weed he had to sell to finance his current campaign; signs ain't cheap...
