Problem solved!!! The fan clutch was the main culprit of it all an possibly a crapy thermostat. I replaced both this past weekend an at idle at 190 an 200 degrees for oil over 20 min. an that was without the factory fan shroud I'm going to put on later this week. Now I need to replace the rag joint on my steering, fix a fuel leak, and replace the oil filter housing that is leaking and I should be good to ride, Finally!!!!

clutch fans of today's vehicles lose rpm every year or so many miles it should be the first thing replaced when things ain't adding up after all it is the easiest job

Glad to hear the problem is solved. You should have no cooling issues with the setup you are running. What part of NC are you from? I am in the mountains.

Bought a 455 skylark that had no shroud which ran 220 degrees. Threw a shroud on it and dropped right down to 195 pretty quick. Also if it has egr and you disconnect the vacuum it will tend to run a little warmer and ping under. Load . also as others have pointed out check timing is set right and vacuum advance can is functioning.
