The best advice that you will ever receive is to buy the same car already restored. If you do, you will save a lot of money, personal labor, and time. No, you cannot do it yourself cheaper unless you place no value on your time.

If you nevertheless feel the irresistible urge to proceed, start with the cleanest example that you can find. You will save money and time in the end.

If you ignore this advice, you are not alone--most do.

Thanks all. I’m in the wonderful state of Maine! It’s cold already. For me there is no pride in a car if I ain’t got my blood sweat and hard earned money into it! I’m more of an all in kinda guy lol. I also happened to stumble on a 65 gto. Or supposed gto. Maybe someone can enlighten me. I know best way is PHS. Haven’t gotten door open yet lol

I BELIEVE option 5N (which that tag has) is an indicator it's a GTO. '64 and '65 GTO was an option on the Tempest.

I have three 65 Skylark/Specials and a 66gs so I may be able to answer some of your questions. The best way to do a car like that is to take it down to the bare frame and put the body on a rotisserie. Unfortunately, you can buy a car cheaper then you can restore one these days.

No fun to just buy one. I have a rotisserie I’m using so it will def be frame off

Dear Derek and V-8 Buick fans of more "mature" Buicks,

Welcome to V-8 Buick! Thanks for posting some pictures. You definitely have a project on your hands. Take your time and learn from others. A restoration like this will take time, but that's better than wasting time and effort going in the wrong direction. Most definitely seek the advice of those how are most familiar with the 1965 Buick Gran Sport. Advice that comes from cars even a few years younger could lead you astray.

Best of luck with this effort!

    Cheers, Edouard

Dear Tom and V-8 Buick fans of more "mature" Buicks,

Don't you mean http://www.65gs.com/board/? Yes, that site is extremely useful because it is very tightly focused on mid-60s Buick A-Bodies.

    Cheers, Edouard
