Bought a set of GM lifters from TA Performance for my 455. Came across a post on here, where one of our members says he always, for extra protection, takes each lifter apart, cleans any residue machining crap out and then puts them back together. Anyhow, I decided I would do. Why not....I have all winter to build this. I pulled two lifters apart, as they are hard to plunge, and in the bottom under the plunger, was full of a clear oil, almost smelled like a mineral oil. Seems like they are almost primed from the factory? Anyone else run into this? Should I empty all of them?

I think that's just left over from where the factory checked them.......pretty common

I think of all the lifters I slapped in dry and I guess dirty and never an issue....

it's also a good time to take measurements of internal pieces and write them down, just for grins. Hopefully GM's are better built than Morels. Don't ask me how I know!

It’s normal, it’s just light oil to keep internals from rusting
