Last night I took my skylark out with the new engine. Its a 10.4:1 30 over 455 with TA sportsman rods, and forged TRW pistons. Stage 2 TE heads with oversize intake valves and level 2 porting. (The intakes flow 345 cfm at 550 lift) I have a TA 290h hydraulic cam installed straight up with stock rockers. 2-1/8" primary TA headers and 2-1/2" dual exhaust. I have a 750cfm dominator carb on a SP2a intake manifold. A 1050 dominator coming UPS tomorrow. The car has a 9inch rear with 3.50 gears and a switch pitch trans. 4000 stall converter.
I broke the cam in first and repaired a couple leaks set the timing for 31 total advance, then we took it for a short drive. I never opened more than 3/4 throttle, but this car is and absolute beast. It blows the tires away at will.I have never driven another street car like this. My stepson who is somewhat into the import thing was with me on the maiden voyage and he was totally speachless, he couldnt belive the force pushing him against the seat. I really didnt anticipate this kind of power either. All I can say is WOW! When we returned my blood pressure was throught the roof and I was giggling like a little girl.

If you get it to hook up right, you should be able to run mid 11's or faster, you will needslicks ,to much for drag radiales, also need a stage 2 scoop. im going to try to run at renagade raceway in yakamia in september, hoping to get in the 11's with a skylark hood with a stage 2 scoop.

Yeah I have forgotton about all of the money spent.

I would like to thank Mike at TA for going the extra mile on my cylinder heads. He wasn't happy with the initial results from the flow bench and went back in to see if he could get them to flow a little better. Mike told me he was surprised at the flow numbers after that. This is a level 2 porting job with oversize 2-1/4" intakes. Im sure I would have been perfectly happy with his initial results but, but kudos to him for having high standards. He always took time to talk to me about this project even though I know he was swamped.
I am thouroughly impressed with the performance I am getting with off the shelf components. The heads in my opinion are the only thing special about this combination.
The headers were a bitch..... no way around that. I had the engine 1/2 in when I layed them in the car. Im sure they wont be as bad next time.

I have a pair of 28 12.5 15 street et slicks for this car. They were too much tire for the stock 350.... obviously.
The 1050 is on the car now and I took my wife out this afternoon for her first ride. She says its a sureal experience and agrees with my son that its like a roller coaster ride. It lays rubber for ever.......traction is definitly a concern :)

sounds like i nice motor. i have a motor being done at trishield with a
similar setup but stage 1 alums flowing 330 cfm 1050 dom ,308 s cam
    roller rockers,1 7/8 headers,3200 stall(for now) 4.10 gn rear with spool.
girdle and sfi flexplate/balancer(if your not useing now you might want
to look at) im hoping to break 10s but its questionable.
did you get a good deal on carb?
was looking to replace mine with a newer model

    1050 dominator

I bought mine on ebay. The seller sells lots of holly carbs. The one I got was used to break in a alchol injected bigblock chevy. 30 minutes run time. Its beautiful but Im trying to figure out what size jets I should be using. It has 88's all the way around and going down the road at steady speed it seems to me to be running lean, I dont know how to describe its kind of rough and grumbles. Like its starved for fuel or something, anyone have any input here?
I pulled the plugs but I had to idle through traffic before shutting down so Im not sure if I can really count on how they appear. 1,2,3 and 4 look lean while 5,6,7and 8 look rich. I could post a photo of them.

what carb did you get ?9375 seems to be what most suggest for these engines . i was told the fuel circuits work where the buick needs to be
fatter. maybe someone else on the board can explain better

Awesome! Glad to hear of another BBB breathing fire.

Lose the HEI and go with a converted points distributor as a trigger for an MSD box. www.davessmallbodyheis.com will convert one for you (I think I have a spare) or Mallory has them.

Stock coil & module have their firepower limitations, but the HEI's larger wire spacing should be less prone to crossfire than the points-style cap. With an external coil & MSD box the HEI makes a great setup.
