New 350 higher capacity oil pan

We are working on a new replacement stamped oil pan for the 350 engine. My thoughts are to deepen the front portion of the pan 1/2 inch. This will still leave clearance between the pan and frame and give more room for windage in the pan. The rear portion I was going to fill in the exhaust cross over area then deepen the pan by 1 inch. This should leave than pan 1/2 up from the bottom of the cross member for protection. Every pan would require a 1 inch spacer to drop the pickup tube or build a replacement tube. I'm guessing this would end up around 7qt pan. This pan will be sold as stock replacement as well as a deep sump higher capacity. What are your thoughts in regards to my proposed changes.

That would be a great addition to the parts line, if its a stamped piece like the 455 replacement pan and priced in the same ballpark I dont see why it wouldn't sell pretty well

I think it's a great idea. New pans are really hard to find.

I would order one with a new intake manifold, and aluminum heads when available !

I'd be in for one pending the specifics. Any chances of baffling or internal oil control for pro touring cars?

I would love to have the pan option available especially AFTER the aluminum heads are available because I would be able to sell someone on a sbb 350 build if aluminum heads were available!

These blocks are thick, some are even thick enough to bore them out to a 4.00" bore!! A 4.00" bore and a 3.990" stroke would be a 401 cid sbb!!! With heads to feed that kind of cid the little big engine would have a mountain of potential, especially being that the blocks are stronger than the factory 455 blocks. And talk about a light engine if it had aluminum heads and a aluminum intake, it would probably be just under 400 lbs, that's less than 1 lb per cubic inch displacement! So yes a good pan available AFTER the heads come out is a great idea IMO.

A oil pan Right Now would be great. With more oil in the engine this will keep it cooler and will keep the engine happy.

TA built mine 20 years ago with the baffles and longer pickup tube just like the 455's have. You know the big square one not the old round one. So this is really nothing new you guys are just too late for the show.

This pan would be somewhat better than the one I have as mine sticks down below the front frame and has ben dented buy some idiot I let work on the car.

Tell me, do we really need new heads to justify buying an oil pan. What are we going to do wait for the heads before buying the intake?

Buy what is available now From TA and they may make you some more parts. Why support Auto Zone or others when you can support these guys download their catalog and you will see they have everything you need for that engine and the rest of the car.

What are we going to do wait for them (TA) to hand us everything on a platter before spending any money on it.

I agree, support TA as much as possible now so they can get the heads and other parts done its a very expensive project that comes out of Mikes pocket. Without Mike and TA we would be in the dark ages as far as performance

Hard to sell a Performance sbb engine build for the kind of vehicles I build engines for without aluminum heads to get them interested because they would(should) have the potential to flow good enough to make the HP these guys want. I could of sold 3 sbb 350 performance engine jobs if the aluminum heads were out(had to build sbc engines instead!). Intake is no problem, I could even of made adapters to use a sbc intake if I needed to. Making the oil pan hold more oil is not rocket science, actually with a girdle on the sbb 350 the stock pan will have extra capacity.

Not to hard to make a sheet metal intake, not to hard to alter an oil pan, VERY hard(but not impossible) to make aluminum cylinder heads in my garage! The dual plane would of still worked with the new heads and so will the stock pan.

A bigger capacity oil pan isn't necessary for a mild rebuild what most of the 350s get. If Mike only wants to do one pan fits all, by all means yes make it with extra capacity for the performance builds.

If Mike is trying to get this available for when the heads come out, good move it will be needed. A lot of turbos and super chargers use engine oil to lubricate them, extra capacity is a good idea for those applications.

Would love to buy much more from TA Performance but my cash is limited right now and the people that want an engine that have the cash want aluminum heads. Hopefully the heads will be as good of a home run as the intake has been so far, would love to spend other people's $$ on TA Performance parts, can't wait!

Get those heads done Mike, I am going to be talking to a customer that wants an engine soon, would love to sell them on a sbb 350 performance build!

I see this as an excellent opportunity to fill a small but important "slot" in the market as used 350 oil pans in good shape seem to be rare. Though I see everyone is eagerly salivating over the heads :Brow: , the oil pan would be another great step for the 350, go for it!!

We had pull off this project but Sherri has been telling me that she has been getting more calls. I had a meeting with the gentleman two weeks ago that makes our other pans about starting to move forward on the 350 pan. I will update when more happens.
