    This is off my '69 Skylark custom. From the tag under the hood. Could someone decode this info and tell me what the VIN would be....

    Body: T 69 444437 05585063
    Paint: T 175 8E 522E
    A65C08C77M38
    443791100506

    Some of the zeros might be the letter "O" cause I had my step brother read it off the tag.

    So I need to know what part is the VIN and I'd like the whole thing decoded for me as well.

    The VIN is NOT on the cowl tag.

    Is the last line (443791100506) stamped on the cowl? This looks like a VIN, but the plant code is wrong.

    Here is what a cowl tag should look like for our cars -

    69 = Model Year
    4 = Buick Division
    44 = Skylark Custom...I think you added one too many 4's
    37 = 2dr coupe
    05585063 = Unit Number (production #)
    A65 = Seat code, but none of mine match this. ie: bucket, power bench, etc.
    C77 = Antique Gold Poly (exterior color)?
    M38 = ? I can't find the code for that.

    443791100506 = VIN (I believe there is another 4 in the beginning of this number, signifying Buick Motor Division.)

    44 = Skylark Custom
    37 = 2dr Coupe
    9 = 1969
    1 = Assembly Plat of Oshawa, Ontario
    100506 = Sequence Number

    Take another look at the cowl tag and record specifically the numbers and letters and the spacing they had, because it's lots easier to decode if everything is spaced correctly.

    Ok thats what was on the tag but I'll look again when I get the chance to see the car again. Its in my step brother's highschool's shop at the moment.

    Like I said though the zeros could be letter "O"s though. Also it's a Canadian car I believe if that means any different. I looked for the VIN on the dash of the driver's side but couldn't find out. I did see a white sort of tag on the dash but couldn't read it because a piece of chrome that's just below the windshield on the outside covered my view.

    You Go Adam! I love to see other people involved in this documentation type stuff! :TU:

    My 1970 assembly manual lists the following UPCs. It is possible Buick could have changed them from 1969 to 1970...

    M35 is the UPC code for a TH350 transmission.
    A65 is the UPC code for notch back bench seat
    C08 is the UPC code for Custom Vinyl Roof Covering (Vinyl Roof)
    C77 :Do No:

    Where's Mike Tromm when you need him...

    Kyle -

    The VIN should be on the dash, and we really need the positions of the codes to help you out.

    Marco you were correct:

    A65 = Notch Back seat
    C08 = Vinyl Roof Covering
    M38 = Turbo 350 Tranny

    C77 is a mystery, I cannot find any UPC codes for that. L77 is a 350 V8 with 4 bbl carb. Could it be a typo?

    Trim code 175 from the tag is also for Notch Back seat.

    Is the "8E" on the tag for the 5th week of August?
