Can I just unplug the main bulkheads or do I need to go through and depin everything that isn't needed? Just need a little guidance here.

Read the "sticky" threads here. READ through those threads; there is one that is VERY detailed, but I cant give exact guidance. I was able to use almost all of the wires, except for the computer stuff, of which you may or may not need based on application, accessories, and end use for the car. Strip only? Street and strip? Cruiser? Makes for a LOT of choices...

I see. For the most part I want to make it pre-emmissions. I still have plans to retain the cruise control and a/c. That's about it. From what I can see it looks like most of the ecm wiring can be cut/depinned but I also notice some of that wiring is also going back to the fuse panel. I think I'm gonna mark wires I know I need for sure and zip tie bundles I know that need to come out and compare those with the diagram. Most of the ecm side of the wiring is starting to rot anyway so it's probably best that I'm pulling it.

I got all the ecm wiring seperated from the engine and is now hanging over the passenger fender. I pulled the ecm out. I notice there's a plug with maybe 8 wires on it stemming from this going up into the dash and has the passneger floor light taped up with it. Does this plug just go over to the obd output plug? My plan was to just pull the fender and cut the wires on the outside of the body and the inside and leave the bulkhead in the firewall to keep it sealed up. Just don't wanna screw myself by taking something out that needs to be there.

Unless you get an aftermarket cruise control, you'l have to retain part of the computer harness, and the computer will need power... The cruise works through the computer using a signal generated on the back of the speedometer. I'll have to get my schematics out to get the proper wire colors and pin numbers for the harness. It depends on several things regarding A/C...Pressure sensors, clutch activation, etc... I'm hoping it uses the same as the 84 and 87. (those are the schematics I have. If you are good at blueprints, and have a decent public library (large city), go to the 628 series of reference materials.
To save my life I can't think of the name of the series of books; not your standard Chilton's, Mitchell, Motor, (one volume style) or the like. This is a SERIES of books like an encyclopedia, car related. Has emission diagrams (just like the sticker under your car original) and tuning spec's in one series; wiring schematics with voltages for on, run, and open circuit. One series is green binders, other series is yellow binders. You'll know your there if they have it. It breaks down by year, make, model, engine. Very specific!!!
    Gonna be fun!

Well sob I already cut the ecm harness out in the engine compartment. I would think there would still be a way to use it. I don't absolutely have to have it but since its there I would like to use it if it isn't to much trouble.

I got an entire bag of wiring from a parts car that is probably in perfect condition if I need it. From what I see on the diagram on maliburacing, nothing goes to the ecmecm from what I can tell.

According to a few threads I found I just need to ground a vss wire and it should work.
