    Hello Guys

I bought a 1969 GS w/ 455 swap and a TH400 transmission w/ TA_288-98H cam & TA aluminum heads. Guessing around 450hp/500+tq. It seems to stall at 2800-3000 rpm (the previous owner upgraded). I dont like it so I want to switch to a STOCK TYPE stall convertor.

What is the lowest stall torque convertor I can install? I would also like a recommendation on what to get and where to obtain it. Torque convertors are not expensive but labor is expensive so I want to do it once and do it right.

You get what you pay for with converters. Buying an off the shelf torque converter is rolling the dice. The right converter will feel like a stock converter until you step on it. To get that converter takes having one built specifically for your combination by a builder who knows what they are doing. Engine torque, car weight, and gearing all affect stall. It sounds like the converter you have now is too loose, and that gets old fast. The best thing you can do is get in touch with Jim Weise and have him build you a converter. Yes it will cost more, but it will be right out of the box.

A good converter properly matched is what you need. There are lots of converters out there that are real junk. I know many have used JW's converters and are happy. PTC is another good company. You need one built for you car not some off the shelf model. Expect to pay at least $600 for a good converter.
