Need Parts Book. Not sure on what parts book I need.

I just bought a bunch of GM NOS parts. Most of the parts are from the 80's to the 90's, with some 70's parts. I am having trouble finding out what the parts fit.

I know I need a parts book or parts books.

Can anyone help me figure out what parts book would be good for me.

If anyone has a parts book they are not using anymore and would like to sell please let me know.

Catalogs

For the 70's the catalog break is from 1975 and older also 1976 thru 1981.
For the 80's the catalog years are 1976 thru 1981, 1982 thru 1990. In the 82-90 each body has its on book, depending on FWD or RWD.
The 90's are very much the same as the 80's setup with the difference being the cumputerized catalog and the discontiuning of the paper catalog in 1993.:shock:

 

also, the parts books will either be, buick, pontiac, or chevrolet, etc. i am not aware of any one book that will cover all. if the part numbers are seven digit, and start with a 1, they are most likely buick, if they start with a 3, they are most likely chevy, a 4 is most likely pontiac, however, there are many exceptions to that. if the parts fit for example, all makes of 70-72 A body, they may start with 7, 8, or 9. or a lower number. often times this will be weatherstrips, or clutch linkage, etc, but obviously not grilles, taillamps, or nameplates, as those will be one make only. if they are more than seven digit, they are probably towards the newer years you mentioned. if you can give some examples of what numbers you have, we might be able to give some more help.

The begining digit in a GM part number does not reflect division usage.
Other than by sight recognition or knowing the part number, on the part(s) package or box there is a sub-group number, from the sub-group number one can check each catalog for the part number I.D.
example:9722787 sub-group 1.266

jerseysky, david is right that the first digit doesnt reflect division usage. there are many buick parts starting with many different numbers, and it was somewhat of a guess on my part when i mentioned pontiac, but it does seem like alot of older buick parts start with a 1, and many chevy parts start with a 3. again, it depends which part we're talking about.

checking the first number of a seven digit number is only way to make a guess. i guess what i'm getting at is, all the old parts i find at swapmeets that start with a 1 have been buick, all the 3's have been chevy. the few pontiac items have started with a 4, but it is not definitive. ford is the only one of the big three that makes it possible to tell what a part fits just by looking at the part number, unless things have changed recently.

Man, you really found those numbers quick. Did you have to look in a bunch of books to find those different part numbers?

Do you think that I need to find all the books like Henry said, or is there one book that covers all.

I was wondering if you guys can help me out with 2 more parts for now. They are bigger parts and I should try to sell them first.
