Looking for new laptop PC but am not up on the latest technology and know the V8Buick community will come through. I see a lot of Refurbs on the 200-$300 range. Last one I bought in 2011 was a refurb and it was fine so am OK with that. Don't do any gaming. Just email, general internet use, photo storage and editing. Prefer large screen - 15" minimum Don't think I want touchscreen technology. Budget is $350 or less. Was thinking Dell brand but open to others if quality is good Thanks
I am Dell user for 20 years. Love the machines - desktop, laptops. U will be stuck with Windows 10 unless u find a good used laptop with windows 7 (which I have on my 9 year old Dell desktop). I have use IBM & Asus & hp laptops but I still prefer Dell, but is a personal think. Never had a failure. Spend a few $$ more and purchase a Dell or IBM or HP (good products). U will be buying with Windows 10 but buy Windows 10 PRO operating system. I have windows home. I should have upgrade to Win 7 Pro but did not. Buy a wireless mouse. I do also suggest that the laptop u purchase have both wi-fi and ethernet connectivity. good luck.
I have been using a Chrome Book for a few years. For most things it is great - internet, gmail, etc. You can photo edit with apps like Sumo Paint. Storage is limited but you can add an SD card and/or use the cloud. It is based on Google so if you have a google account you are already hooked up. The advantages are: Exception battery life - 10 to 12 hours (for real) Fast recharge - usually takes 45 minutes virus free - no need for antivirus fast boot reliable fast processing - it does not use much cheap lightweight I use an HP. They can but had for about $200. You can save if you shop around. I do have access to a desktop when I need power, but I am usually on my chromebook.
I would recommend a Chromebook, it's will take care of all your needs without the extra stuff. Will boot up quickly as well!
I just bought a Lenovo for 350$ so far so good seems to work good I am used to Apple products and this Lenovo laptop seems to be working good. I have a Mac Book Pro and this is the 10th year I am using it I paid 1100$ for that one but it has never failed. I wanted the PC laptop to use programs that are used on those since most stuff is still PC.
Lenovo is pretty much the standard for most tech company IT departments, refurb T450s are in your price range. As long as your processor is at least an i5, and you have 8 GB of RAM, should be suitable for normal use.
...main issue with laptops is heat, usually caused by using it on your (wait for it) lap or some other surface that obstructs airflow. In general, I agree with "chromebook" crowd, if you're not "serving" your house or doing heads-down computing, you probably don't need a PC/laptop. As for Win7, end of life is January 14, 2020, tick, tock...
So all windows 7 computers will not work after 2020. I just bought a laptop for 25 bucks from a geek squad type of guy.
Agree on Chromebook, easy to use powerful. Otherwise, I would go for dell or Lenovo -- if it is used, make sure it has Win 10 -- you don't want to be bothered with old operating systems
I would say to look at refurbished Thinkpads. You can get a T530 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD on NewEgg right now, even comes w/a 1yr warranty for $350. That is a well built laptop and with the SSD will be as quick as you need it to be. I have sold quite a few Thinkpad refurbs to clients and they are usually in decent shape, I have even gotten a newer model a couple of times than what was advertised. Just stay away from the 40 series, i.e. T440, T540, etc. They had a really bad trackpad design (unless you are tech savy as you can upgrade them with the 50 series trackpads if you want). No matter what you get, though, make sure it has a solid state drive, SSD. Buying anything with a regular hard drive these days is pure waste of money. Stay away from HP and Toshiba, they are bottom of the barrel for quality and are made to break. Dell/Acer/ASUS are a bit better. Lenovo is usually good, Thinkpads being the top tier (I am a Lenovo dealer for transparency). I own a computer repair shop, so I speak from experience. Like others said, you can also ask Yardley as well for advice.
...no, still work. Problem will be no more security updates, which will make OS vulnerable to hackers. Facts that 39% of PC users still use Win7 plus end of security updates will make it prime target for hackers...
Best thing you can do regardless if the laptop sits on a desk or lap is one of the fans to set your laptop on If you buy a cheap laptop just make sure you keep all your important stuff backed up all the time because they are here today and gone tomorrow. I had a series of Dell's for a lot of years and had decent service out of them but usually bought the higher end ones and even then had issues at times. Have 27" iMac now on the desk, a MacBook Pro for travel/business and iPad Pro for when I want to be on while lounging. They all tie together flawlessly along with the phone and watch and never have an issue with Apple I would agree on the Lenovo ThinkPad as a good solid choice.
MacBook.... Anything else is Fix Or Repair Daily,, Had more issues with PC, Android, windows type crap... Never had a problem anything Apple..
I always go to micro center before i buy anything..they have new..refurb..and lease trade ins, and if youre vigilant you can get a deal..sometimes they have no box deals etc... take some advice from others on what type and check them out before ya go to a big box store..its worth looking into https://www.microcenter.com/site/stores/default.aspx
Lot's of good suggestions here ... remember, you're only about 30 days from BLACK FRIDAY when you know there will be DEALS. Do your research on brands, pricing, & features now and then get ready with a plan A, B & C for Black Friday deals on-line ... or in person. Over the past few years, I have bought new Dell computers during their Black Friday sale. Dell is more relaxed giving an on-line time range to buy. And, Best Buy will price match if buying local is important to you, etc.
