Thinking of buying a 69 GS400 VIN: 446379I131449<o></o> Trim plate (see attached) seeems to read: Made in Canada ST 69 344637 OS 6211891 BDY<o></o> TR 186 612B PNT<o></o> 2C A51C60D55M4 As reported by the seller the smaller ID# on the block is 49l131449 (matches VIN) and he found a second larger font number above it which appeared to read<o>18735C. Not sure what this is. Can't reach the cast number at this time (needs to remove a few items, probably alternator). In trying to decode the trim plate it looks like a 69 GS400 2 dr. hardtop coupe made in Oshawa, CN. Trim (186) is buckskin vinyl with bucket seats (?). Paint (61 2B) seems to indicate lower body burnished brown poly (61), with black vinyl top (2B) Made (2C) on the 3rd week of February. Don't know what the run of A51C60D55M4 is. Could be A51 C60 D55 M4, but still not clear. Any help appreciated, </o> <o> Rick</o> <o></o> <o> </o> <o> </o>
Trim plate (see attached) seems to read: Made in Canada ST 69 344637 OS 6211891 BDY TR 186 612B PNT 2C A51C60D55M4 I'll give it a go: ST 69 - year 1969 344637 - this should read 44637, which is a GS 400 2 door coupe. OS - Build plant - Oshawa, ON 6211891 - this should read 621891, which is the body unit number TR 186 - Blue vinyl bucket seats, according to my Canadian parts book. Buckskin vinyl was not available on the GS models, according to the same book.o No: 612B - Not 100% sure of this, but could be time build code or paint codes. Hope this helps.
A51 = Strato-Bucket Seats C60 = Air Conditioner D55 = Full Length Console M40 = Turbo-Hydramatic 400 Transmission 2C = third week of February, 1969 TR 186 does indicate Buckskin Bucket seats. It seems rather odd that both codes (2 and B) were used for upper body color, but they both indicate a black vinyl top.
PNT = 61 (Burnished Brown) B = black vynil top) TRM= Jim is correct on the other codes... $70. GM Historical Services.... You've got the decode already for others (65-77 ) here is GM Canada Info <center> </center>Parts Cat Preface & Ident May 81 GM Corp - sent in by Dana Laiche rest of the partbook and 63-72 US version and more decode info are in the libraries at http://boattail-riviera-by-buick.com/library/documents/documents.php and http://fullsizebuickregistries.boattail-riviera-by-buick.com/
I love this hobby. Even after 35 years of studying the cars, there is still something to learn. Was this upper color code specific to the Oshawa assembly plant?
