So, I'm going through my boxes separating parts from my original motor, and what I need to use when everything goes back together.

I pull my starter out and....Solenoid is busted....

This is a Jamie rebuild I bought unused from another member here. Jamie hasn't posted for over a year and a half.

I need a new solenoid. I don't really want to buy a new starter, this one was only used less than 6 months.

I think it might be this one, but I have no idea how to be sure: https://www.amazon.com/SOLENOID-MARINE-PLEASURECRAFT-ENGINES-4-TERMINAL/dp/B005HEXYRU

I remember him saying he used either a mid 90's Roadmaster 3 post solenoid a marine 4 post.

What about just a new cap? Seems like an easy swap.

You had the 4 post. Not an easy job to replace the cap on that solenoid. Even if you have the jig to hold it , a press and a crimp tool to re crimp the cap on it takes more time than it is worth. Over the years I have probably replaced a few thousand caps or put in replacement posts on the crimped cap type solenoids. Just buy one.

Agreed. I want to replace the whole solenoid. It seems like that would be the easiest way to go. If they are only $20 like the link Larry posted its a no brainer.

Larry, I can't tell from the description or the picture if that's a 4 post. It looks like a 3 post?

My old ignition system needed the 4 post as I was running a Mallory Unilite and the instructions said it needed 12v on startup and 9v running.

I'm not using the Mallory anymore. I went with the TA_724RP Billet and I'll be running a MSD6AL box along with a MSD blaster coil. I'm assuming I won't need the 4 post because my new setup will require 12v constant correct?

If you are using an MSD box, you don't need a bypass, 3 post is fine. With a box, the wire from the ignition switch simply turns the box on and off, so no resistance wire, full 12 volts. The box gets it's power directly from the battery, and the box connects to the coil directly as well.
