I think that most of us were treated that way Fred as we returned from a war we didn't really what to be involved in, BUT were.
As Rodney Dangerfield said "No Respect".

It didn't matter in an airport if you were a Nam vet or not? You had the uniform of the U.S. A. on and it was their agenda to try to embarrass America and those who served!
Just like they do now with our anthem?

I think you may have missed his point. Jimi apparently did not do his version to make any political or racial statement.

    It just sounds fantastic...always has!

Bought a pair of Bose 901's 35 years ago because I was in Circuit City and Jimi came on the radio -- All Along the Watchtower -- and they sounded better than anything else.

Just a few short years ago really...hard to imagine now. I hate the people that want to tear us apart.

Jimmy Hendrix was an Army Veteran. I'm a 70 y/o Army Veteran myself so I'm very set in my opinions of respect for the flag/National Anthem. Even though I don't watch or care about their useless play games, i feel sorry for the Fans who pay hard earned money, take their families to relax and put aside the daily family problems. They go to enjoy time with friends or family and then the"millionaires" throw a dampener on the experience. To the"millionaires" I say go ahead and kick/squeeze the Golden Goose. As revenues fall with lack of attendance/ratings, the"Pie" will get smaller. Fixed cost of stadiums, travel yada yada will stay the same. The Owners will still want their same size slice of pie. Hmmm, the piece left for"players" salary will be much smaller. Oh the tears and bewilderment of why from the former "millionaires." Very seldom in life does one get to have and eat the cake. I'll be in my garage enjoying my day either way no matter how it turns out for the"millionaires." If it turns out bad for nfl/nba/mlb, I probably will be smiling while working in my garage.

Too bad we don't have mandatory military service for two years or the draft still in force. They do their best to get you focused on what is important for the good of the country including respect for fellow soldiers, airmen, sailors etc. Being in the military tends to get you straightened up real quick and you realize what being in a free country really means. My four years as an Air Force office 1969 - 1972 taught me a lot and helped me excel in my Architectural profession when I got out. I have a grandson going to Massachusetts Military Academy and he is getting a great education as well as learning critical values, leadership skills, and respect. :)

I agree with a minimum of two years military!
It will get your head on straight or you go the other way?
We had guys who went AWOL permanently and they spent time in the Brig when they got caught
A stain on their job opportunity until the last twenty years or so?

I will give credit to the lefties and cancel culture people, they stick together and they are good at organizing. If all of the "silent majority" (which I hope actually exists) would stick together to prove their point it would make a big difference. Unfortunately that does not happen so the lefties/libs get their way.
If the conservatives would actually stop going to sports events or buying products from the political correct companies they may see that they are biting the real hand that feeds them. I am guilty of not standing up against that politically correct crap myself. I just want to go to work, pay my bills, be courteous to others (when they deserve it), enjoy my life and not have to deal with more crap. I am not looking for any handouts from the government or anyone else. The one thing I do is vote and I hope all conservatives do the same. If not, I don't want to think about what's coming, if you thought the 8 years before Trump were bad you are in for a real treat if he loses.

Playing the national anthem and saying the pledge of allegiance is a common courtesy to your country and should be used to remind a person just how good they have it by living here (even if they think its so terrible). All those people trying to sneak in here illegally are not doing it because it sucks here.

I never served, and I'm not saying that it wouldn't have been a good influence on me, but I think I turned out ok. My dad was a WWII vet and served in Warsaw. In the 26 years we got to spend together before he passed, he taught me that common courtesy was to be given to everyone, but trust and respect were earned, not given freely.

Most of my close family were in the military. Vietnam, Korea, and an uncle who survived a concentration camp. A mix of enlisted and drafted. These were the influences on my life, and if any of them were alive today I think they would be just as disgusted about what's going on.

I don't know if they would agree with mandatory military. I do know that they all fought, so that others wouldn't have to.

Shout out to my dad. I'm still trying.
