Jim, would need to disassemble, make the cutout in the main shell bigger, cut new rubbers and reassemble. For me to do the work it would cost almost the same as a set of new 3". If you have 2 1/2" set already, better to sell them and buy new. I have 3" sets.
with torque tech 3" pipes, do the hangers line up wheelz 3" stainless tips thru the bumper correctly?
Jim, putting 3" thru the bumper will not be easy. I make no claims to any of it fitting, too many variables. Only offering these because people asked for them. Rusty, PM coming soon. Thanks.
I went out last night to check if I need these, or may soon need these, and to my surprise I don't even have them. I have what appears to be the standard Skylark hanger that mounts off the side of the frame rail. Anyone know why I wouldn't have the N25 hanger?
I received my hangers yesterday and I must say, these hangers are exceptional. Great craftsmanship and attention to detail. Well done, Steve.
Well its possible your car wasn't originally equipped, the hangers rusted out and were not available at the time, or some exhaust hack just did not know. Do your tips ever rattle in the openings? If you have original size exhaust I can attest to the ones Steve makes I have them on my car and I have a couple originals in bad shape you really cannot tell except Steves are way nicer than old originals
Hard to tell from the pic, but it doesn't look like he's got OEM tips. They look aftermarket. Also looks like the pipes are bigger than the original 2.25". Maybe that's why the hangers went missing as they would no longer fit the pipes. o No: Without the proper hangers they almost certainly rattle against the bumper openings.
I'm not getting any rattle that I can notice. I just got the car in late September and haven't really had a chance to go over everything yet. I know the exhaust is not stock, its hooker headers 3" to the flowmasters then 2.5" back and out. I have no clue if the car originally came with N25 tips or the bumper for that matter. If anyone can tell by looking, here is a better rear view: So are the original hangers only at the back side of the mufflers and then go to the hangers Steve is making? Nothing in between?
Yeah, those are a pair of Wheelz' tips. He's on this board. Going by the way the tail pipes are spliced, more than likely a previous owner added the N25 option. The only way to know for sure is to get the build docs for your car. Unfortunately I don't believe the Sloan Museum has documentation for the '71's.
Hey Steve I am new to the site and in the process of a body off restoration of a number matching 72 GS 350 with the N25 option. I would like to use 2 1/2" tail pipes and saw your post about making the brackets for the 2 1/2" pipe. I was wondering are you still making them or do you have any left for sale. I'm not sure what to do for the tips at this point but if nothing else at all I will use Parts Place tips. If you are not making them or have any do you know where I can get them. Thanks, Bryan Bernius
Brian, might have some unclaimed sets. Will give them 1 more week to respond then they are yours. Contact Wheelz on this board for 2 1/2" tips. See post in parts for sale.
Still waiting for responses from tdacton JCP Abodyguy BobBuick 72Gs4spd 70sportwagon Guys let me know if you have mailed checks so I will hold your order. Thanks
I got mine about a week or two ago. Really high quality pieces. I don't know when I'm going to build my 3inch system for my '70... But these are going to make my life a lot easier. Thanks Steve!!
