Hi Dan Is this the car that you brought to Puyallup 3 or 4 years ago on the trailer? If so, it certainly sounded like a big engine. Anyway, it's looking great. I hope you will be done for Puyallup in June. Cheers Harvey
yea harvy, that's it, i would like to have it ready by the puyallup show, but at the pace my body guy is moving i hope to have it there before the world ends in 2012.
Firewall is painted and ready for the motor and tranny to go back in. also picked up an electric fan (out of an 01 intrepid, i hear they fit perfectly in x'body's) and the brackets for the bucket seat install.
got the motor and tranny in. unfortunatly when i was puting in the motor, i scratched up the firewall.....so mad i feel like screaming at the top of my lungs. also got the wiring harness installed and started to run the wires.
the body guy is finally moving full speed ahead, got the firewall repainted after scratching it in while installing the engine, go the whole car D.A'd all the rust is gone and new metal welded in, got the hole in the floor cut out for the tranny, bucket seat brackets are in, and we should have the car ready for etching primer by this weekend!
Huh, don't know how I missed this thread. Looking good. I considering power window's as well, and for $40 I'd do it in a heart beat!
got the motor back in, started to get the wires in place. the body shop guy is back in snail mode. not looking good o have it back on the road by spring time. im working on getting the z-bar to fit without hitting the headers, i had to cut off the lower tab and move it closer to the block. the picture of it here is not the finished product.
installed the brakes today. summit (sbbc) aluminum 2 piston disc up front and sbbc disc in the rear. painted them with "G2" caliper paint and am not happy at all with the outcome. the cast iron rear disc look ok, but the aluminum came out runny and blotchy after 4-5 coats of paint and the color isn't quite what was represented on the box. a little too orange for me, but im not going to strip it down and redo it another color. also installed the pre-bent stanless front brake lines, they are REAL nice! ordered from classic industries, the fit was almost perfect
got the electric fan in today after having some brackets fabricated out of aluminum. the fan is out of a 2000 dodge intrepid. fits perfect!
Finally got tired of all of the excuses and snail's pace that my body guy was doing and moved the car to a regular body/resto shop. its going to be a bit more expensive now but i didnt have much options. the car has been there 5 days now and they are moving along. they got the hood, wheel wells and back shell worked and ready for priming and or block sanding. thankfully they dont have much of a problem with me tinkering around them as long as im not in their way (which i dont want to be in anyway). so i got my "Momo" steering wheel that i found at a swap meet installed. it has a carbon fiber ring and yellow momo horn button to match the carbon fiber instrument panel and guages and the momo shifter knob and pedals. i also got my seats (front and rear) back from the upholstery shop.
awsome news! this body shop seems to be motivated and has been chugging along. they say that they will be done by next weekend. which leaves me only to finish the wiring and reinstall the interior. they are also letting me do some work while it is in the shop, so i got the exhaust and my new shortened driveshaft back in.
My baby is HOME!!! im so psyched. i've been working on getting it back on the road non stop. so far got the fan, front and rear head/tail lights, electric keyless entery door locks (thanks to philip's how-to post) prety much wired up. emblems are on, as well as the battery shutoff in place (real happy with how the matching paint looks). made a last minute decision to paint the "buick" on the valve covers to match the exterior color (thanks to perple for the idea) trying so hard to get it ready for the puyallup show (local BCA show)
rolling along nicely, having some troubles here and there, but mostly in the wiring which was expected. been working about 3 days straight, not much eating or breaks. car should be ready to start tomorrow.
interior is just about finished. the car started with a little problem solving. power window and keyless doorlocks are all operating nicely.
