Some of you showed interest in my goal of getting my Buick 350 into the 10's, so I thought I would give an update on my progress. Looking at what we learned in Bowling Green in October, I made a few minor changes to the car over the winter. Thanks to my work schedule and some bad luck with one of my trailers axles, my first time out this year was at the NHRA divisional race in Belle Rose, Louisiana earlier this month. Since I was in bracket race mode, we decided to focus on consistency instead of max performance, so we did not do all the things that would give us a little more ET (thin oil, icing the motor, etc). Even without all the tricks, the car ran 11.0's at around 118 mph all race with a best ET of 11.01. Here is a link to the final qualifying sheet (I qualified 18th) http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=310685 My goal is to get into the 10's, but If I'm not mistaken, 11.01 makes me the fastest naturally aspirated Buick 350 ever. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I believe your times are tied with sonny seal and tweety(68gs) which is alitte heavier then the regal I believe but not very sure on that . Maybe someone has better info. Doesn't Gary Paine know sonny? But I wish you lots of luck getting there
I am pretty sure sonny was at 11.08 in the quarter with his full weight all iron skylark so yeah Owen you have the record as far as we know! Nice work!
Congratulations Owen, looks like a 10 is coming soon. Sonny's fastest was a 11.01 in an all steel 69 California w/ full interior and glass. Believe he weighed about 3500 with driver. He was on a 10 second run when he crashed at norwalk based on his incremental times, he slide sideways through the traps. I see him often and he always asks about fast running 350's, I'll pass your accomplishments on to him. gary
Lets remember folks This car is constrained by tight rules as compared to someone else making test passes with any combo they choose More impressive I think 11.0 at 118 Car is workin the front half for sure!!!
You're right, it is even more impressive, Sonny had trick rods and pistons and he adapted a chevy small block single plane intake and 850 holley. gary
I thought Sonny ran an m1 modified mopar small block intake? Either way both Sonny and Owens cars are impressive to be running these times
Thanks for the update Owen! It is always exciting to hear Gary talk about your car. Of course, he was dying that you weren't doing some type of tinkering to get the number first time out. :bglasses:. Good luck, we are all pullin' for you and Gary!:TU: Troy
