blew the dust of my car and made it over to the track to be rained out Saturday .however on sunday after a lengthy delay to dry the track ,I was rewarded with a 9.98 135 mph run.. I was happy with the old girl, ran it on chevron pump and spun it to 7100rpm through the beams ,never missed a beat .As usual traction is marginal,( was on 2 year old 9in hoosiers )
nothing too crazy 11.0 to 1 compression finishline halo, light je pistons ,BME rods solid flat tappet,sp2 int . some modern rings.ported S3 heads car weighs exactly 3600 according to the track scale I did add some weight back in last year(inner fenders bigger rad etc probly 50 pounds or so) shift around 6900 -7000 rpm ...ya I know seems to high but it likes it 30x9 hoosier . dropped the clutch at4600 ( way too low by the way) didn't want to blow the tires off as the traction was so so after all the rain needs to be around 5000rpm for a better 60ft still pulled off a 1.42 not bad but not great
Man ole man, that is wicked, grabbing gears and running 9s you gotta be the only man in the world doing that with a Buford. Congratulations that's a he'll of an accomplishment
That is awesome! Making us Buick 4 speed owners proud! Got any in car video?? I know we'd all love to see that.
thanks for all your kind words...I don't get out racing much anymore, the 2 kids keep me hoppin ,just was awesome to run the somewhat freshened combo down a real track sorry no vid ...and yes jamming gears with a stick is too cool on a good clean pass. I know you guys probly get the same comments at the track as me its just too funny "huh its got a buick in it" as they walking away scratching their head
there is a class called super shifter now .like the name says all stick cars seems to be gaining popularity ,im a noob to that class 30-40 cars show up now for it
4.56 rear gear, totally different from the 3.73 or 4.10 that are typical with the car when it was auto.....that's the things I learned years ago with a stick (no torque multiplication from a converter)
heads are the reason for most of this they flow a lot 350 at .500 361 at .600 great low lift 312 at .400 solid ft 270 270 .605 .602 lift in at 105 they only thing this combo needs is a vacuum pump maybe this winter oh and probly a bigger carb its just an old 850 demon
I ran 4.10 in my vert and loved it using the Muncie with the over drive (0.87 fourth gear) to allow a bit more comfortable cruising.
That is a very impressive car! As the others have already mentioned, an in-car video would be cool to see and hear. Got any photos of this beast you can post up?
