Im pretty excited. I’ve been selling an OEM console hinge for the 68-69 Buick Skylark and GS on this board for a year. It’s been very well received. A few months ago I approached OPGI and they were very Interested in it. So here it is! Thanks to all who purchased one or lent me one so i could measure it and get it reproduced. Cheers my Buick brothers! https://www.opgi.com/skylark/S241306/
What kind of quantity did you ave to supply them? Did they ask you to sign a no compete and did you get the same price as if you were selling on your own? Thinking about doing the same with some of my parts
With this hinge they would only commit to 10-20 at s time. It’s such as small market for the 68-69s. I do get less than selling them myself but I have the benefit of selling them more than one. So there’s a quantity discount. As for no compete, I’m still allowed to sell them myself. Since I’m not selling to other companies, and I said I wouldn’t, it’s not an issue. I’m sure every part is different. They can also wholesale if I want at some point. They would sell to other companies. I’d need a large order from them to do so as I don’t want to get stuck with a bunch of hinges. I’m definitely in the red on these. PM me and if you want to talk, I can call sometime.
Also, I’m the only one in the world dumb enough to make this hinge, so opgi has no competition other than me and I don’t market it very hard.
I know what you mean about being upside down on a new item. These trunk fillers have set me back. It will take time to recover. Im not doing this to get rich. Just helps fund my retirement account. Clocks ticking!
Will these hinges work for 68-69 Chevelle, Cutlass & Le Mans console lids? If so, that would expand your market quite a bit.
research the 70-72 cutlass console hinge..they need to be done..they are junk and break..many many consoles need them..i dont think they make them yet. i cant get over how much the 68-9 hinge you make looks like 69-70 Amc/AMX hinge..it wouldnt surprise me if it was the same supplier originally..
Thank you. It looks like the cutlass hinge is being reproduced and at a low price. Trying to break into that market would likely set me back way too much plus competition plus trying to recoupe mold costs and I’m wondering how much demand is left for that hinge since they already are being sold aftermarket. The Buick hinge was fun but it’s a slow seller with the niche market of two years; 68 and 69. GM really made some poor choices by having speciality items like these hinges that are specific to two years of Buick and only the skylark model.
