ok, tiny tiny progress. Right before the hood scoops the hood was flat. something musthave fell on it and flattened it. We welded a tab on it and pulled it right up. The rest of time we organized the garage so slowly progress is being made.
FINALLY GOT SOME QUALITY WORK ON IT. I stripped the front left fender down to bare metal today. The marker light and below it is all bent up, 3 dents, 2 small surface rust spots, and a spot of bondo by the GS emblem about the size of a quarter. I was very happy with the progress today and considering that dad played around with the windows today and I was the only one working on it... hopefully next week we can weld the hood and take the front end apart. i forgot the camera so no pics.
I suggest you plan the shortest path between here and a car you can legally and safely drive. Most projects that stall suffer from over ambition, and the "while I'm here I'll also do this" syndrome. The best way to keep a project moving is to drive the car enough to fall in love with it. The dream of the perfected and finished car may not be strong enough to get you through the project. But, a collection of memories of enjoying the car can get you through those days when every bolt breaks and you uncover new problems at each step. Planning is also the key to making progress when you're trying to fit it into a busy life. 20 minutes during the week planning what you'll do, gathering tools and parts and thinking your way through the project can double the amount you get done per session. Good luck and post lots of pictures. John
A little more work was done on the left front fender... I also found a little bit of bondo well actually big dents filled with bondo... I think this might be the worst panel of the car. I got pics this time but the bottem part of this fender is like a mountain range.
new tools! Little updates: Currently we are in the process getting the body all straightened before the front end comes off. We bought a self contained sand blaster and a stud welder a week ago. The sand blaster came today and the stud welder should be here friday. We also bought a compresser, Im not sure how big it is but I know its not portable. Im excited!
Everything worked out last sunday. The body is all lined up and all dings and dents are out and the front end is pretty much ready to come off. The hood is off and almost everything else is ready to be taken out except the motor.
Looks like a great car to start with. Is there a budget and schedule for this resto yet? They do come apart a lot quicker and easier than they go back together :dollar:
Budget- yes not a very small one though. Schedule- Can you clairify? I hope to have the car done my september\October.
nice project, going to be great when it's done. are you sticking with the original colors, etc or making it how you want it?
No school= Stripping the sport mirrors and air cleaner. The air cleaner lid is already down to bare metal. Pics tommorow.
Louie...the important question is...what did you get grounded for? and is you Dad interested in British motorcycles?
got a 67 on my history test. first test I failed all year. My lowest test in any class before that was an 83. and No British Motorcycles for him. He hates any motorcycle and Im not a fan of them either. Like father like son.
that sucks on the test. as for the bikes...never hurts to ask, got my 73 Triumph and 74 Norton up for sale
Progress is easier said than achieved... Got to love a nice comfortable garage... This is what we accomplished Sunday. Today we pulled my motor out of the parts car. We are inching closer... so clean... GOT TO LOVE IT I wonder how long this was in the bottem of the fender... Stay tuned... Check in next sunday night.
