By the way, it looks smoking hot!!!!! Nice job.

Seems only coupe stuff is easilly available!!

    Go figure. Just my luck.

    BuickGS65's review: installment # 1

Hi Everyone! Thanks for all the positive comments.

Here is the first part of my (detailed) review. Please let me know if you have any questions. I will post the next "installment" as soon as I complete it.

    Dash Pad
Dash was restored by Just Dashes. www.JustDashes.com The quality is amazing! However, its very expensive. Expect a (black) pad restoration to cost approximately $650 and take 6-10 weeks. Well worth the money.

    Seats

All parts came from Legendary Auto Interiors. Amazing quality & exact reproductions. For the bucket foam go with their American Cushion Industries brand molded bucket seat foam (more expensive). The rear seat foam was 1.5 or 2 high density foam available at any upholstery shop. I had the hot rod shop recover the seats for me. I polished the side chrome hockey sticks with a Mothers Power Ball (highly recommended). Lube the tracks with white lithium grease while youve got the seats out. Make sure to paint the bucket seat frame legs (where you bolt the seats to the floor) because they are visible. I installed new seat bumpers (originals are round, but I went with the oval-shape bumpers because there is more surface area on the seat bumper). I also replaced the bucket seat end caps (the army helmet looking caps). The bucket seat end caps were hard to install for me. They are easy to break. To install, LIGHTLY tap them on. Go with Legendary for all interior products if possible and order directly from Legendary. If you order from Year One they might send you PUI.

    Legendary part numbers:
    Bucket covers (black w/buttons): AA65GK00010100G
Bucket foam (American Cushion Industries brand): MF62GGSETAC
Bucket seat end caps (4 per car): SK64GA-CAP
Rear bench cover (black w/buttons): AA65GK00040100G
    Seat bumpers (round): BU64GA-BKKIT
    (oval): BU66GA-BKKIT

    CARPET

[All part numbers are from Year One unless otherwise noted]

    The Carpet
Auto Custom Carpets ("ACC") is the standard in the industry in my opinion, so I used their products. The molded carpet [Black molded carpet - ACC brand: 6467ABLK10] comes uncut for the floor console, so you have to cut the carpet to accomodate the shifter. Not hard to do, just time consuming. Place all your seat bolts and seat belt bolts in before you lay down the carpet. Feel for the bolt head and cut an "X" into the carpet over each bolt head. Other than that, just follow the instructions that comes with the carpet. By the way, the jute comes already attached to the molded carpet.

    Underlay
I was dissapointed with the carpet underlay (the "tar-like" material) [ACC brand SW603]. The underlay is smaller & thinner than original, and I had problems getting it to lay flat without tearing (even with using a heat gun). I ended up just putting it on top of my old underlayment; so if your old underlayment is in good shape, place the new underlay on top.

    Floormats
The carpet floor mats are also ACC brand. There is a seller on eBay "autocarpet" that IS ACC (facotry direct). They sell their ACC products cheaper. I bought their carpet floor mats (without logos). Excellent fit - there is even a hole (with trim) for the floor dimmer switch!

    Kick Panels
Legendary sells precut carpet for the kick panels (Legenday part # KI65GAW). Perfect fit, just use 3M headliner spray adhesive to attach them to the plastic kick panels. Although my car did not have it from the factory, I installed jute insulation on the back of the kick panels for extra sound deadening. (Year One # LP626). Minor trimming & shaving of the jute was required in order to get the kick panels back in. I recommend adding the jute here.

    Ok, here's the last installment.

    DOOR PANELS

    REAR PANELS

I recovered my rear armrests with the covers from Year One. They sent me PUI, but they fit and look good. Stretch the vinyl tight over the metal arm rest and glue. I also added new foam on the top of the arm rest (by the ash tray). I also used the plastic inner splash shields. Way better than the old tar paper.
The rear panels install with the "modern" push-in type door panel fasteners. The door panels came from Legendary. You must resuse you door panel chrome trim and rounded metal top piece. Very easy install.

    FRONT PANELS
Again, the panels came from Legendary. You must re-use the perimeter metal trim that holds the nail door panel clips, in addition to reusing your chrome trim and rounded top piece. Legendary door panels are TOP quality. The arm rest bases I had rechomed by Jim W. a few years ago, and the arm rest pads are repro that were made by CARS Inc. (which are no longer available). I also used new plastic inner splash shields, held in place with 3M strip caulk.

    ***
If I had to do things over, I would do a few things differently on the front panels. First I would buy the panels pre-assembled. Legendary offers this service. Secondly, I wouldn't use the old "nail-style" panel clips. I would cut those off and fill in the elegated holes on the inner door skin. And then I would use the modern push-in clips. The plastic inserts where the nails go into are brittle (even the new repros), and it is just an overall poor design. See this thread for pics: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=140417

I hope that all made sense to everyone. Post any questions/clarifications.
