Hallo Fellas, it's sunday evening here and I want to keep you updated! I didn't do very much this weekend. Only cleaned and resealed my York compressor and prepared it for it's future job, that be pumping air instead of cooling fluent, and also wanted to show you some pictures of the worst rust on my wagon (not as bad as you might think). There ya go, I hope you all had a great weekend!
Another pretty lazy saturday. I just did some welding and got a real heavy facial sunburn because I didn't use any protection. So don't try this at home.
Thanks for the update! (Re: My 64 LeSabre Estate Wagon project) Hi Raoul and V-8 Buick wagon fans, Thanks for the update and sorry about the sunburn. Hope you'll get past that soon enough and that you'll be able to keep "plugging along" on your 64 wagon!! Cheers, Edouard :beer
Thank you Edouard, my skin already starts peeling off and the pain is gone. I bought an automatic helmet yesterday, so that won't happen to me again (of course this was not the first time:spank.
Dear People at V8Buick.com, I just wanted to let you know that I'm still working on it. Pictures will follow soon. I am very busy at the moment. Sorry for keeping you waiting. And don't forget to vote today!
Hey guys! Here's the update. I've been pretty busy the last time, I was working on a crane for the frame-off and whatever and also I am working on another project for a friend, a 69 LeMans, and I am trying to get both cars done in may 2013. Today I removed the steering column and the parking brake pedal from my wagon. I need some help to remove the parking brake cable from the body, I couldn't figure out how to get that done. Any help is greatly appreciated. Regards, Raoul
Re: Interesting wagon "stowaways" . . . (Re: My 64 LeSabre Estate Wagon) Nah, the smell was already "baked" off by then. Did you have some nice relaxing rides with lots of stops for fast food, for awhile there? Just curious- I've heard the words in context, but am not a partaker of that particular weed.
Hey guys, I haven't been here in forever, I'm sorry. I had a lot of stuff going on, lotta cars to work on, and finally moved to a new shop. So this saturday, I eventually did the frame-off. So I hope to get some stuff done this summer. If anybody could support me on info about interchangeable parts with other GM cars, that'd be awesome. Like I'm looking for rebuild stuff like all kinds of bushings, brakes, and so on, but the LeSabre wagon is listed nowhere. Otherwise if anybody could confirm that the frames for wagons and all other '64 Fullsizes are the same, that'd be also great. So here's the pics y'all been waiting for, sorry for the poor quality, that's just my cellphone camera. Regards, Raoul
Very cool. The 64 Wagon is based on the Wildcat Chassis, so look for 64 Wildcat parts for the chassis components. No guarantees that everything exchanges, but it will be closer than LeSabre parts.
Most of the Chassis parts are no too difficult to find. Classic Buicks has rear suspension bushings. Rock auto for most anything else. Steele rubber ans CARS sell the rubber body mounts. How many body bolts broke off? The bolts behind the rear wheels are always break off. Your pictures look familiar to me. The body is off of my 63 wildcat now. http://s293.photobucket.com/user/chriswildcat/library/Restoration http://s293.photobucket.com/user/chriswildcat/library/ Chris
Hey Chris, thanks a lot for the links. Very nice restoration you doin there. I've lost the two bolts in the very rear of the car and one just behind the rear wheel on the passenger side. Could be worse, I guess. Thanks for the names of the parts suppliers, I was especially looking for the body mounts. Any hints on accessing the nuts with the broken bolts? Or do I just have to cut it open and weld it all back toghether? Regards, Raoul
It's been a while again, sorry folks, but I'm still at it, I just don't have the time I'd like to spend on my project. I'm blasting the frame right now with soda, everything turns out really nice and clean. If you are not familiar with soda blasting, you should totally give it a try, it's awesome. it doesn't affect the original surface at all, but it strips paint and dirt in no time. Even soft pieces can be blasted without harm, like that brake hose in the picture below.
