Just got caught up on this thread - Looking great Kevin! I can't wait to build another 350. Looking forward to seeing how yours runs.
Thanks guys! I'm getting super excited myself! and a bit nervous...I've never had a brand new motor in anything and I'm hoping things go smoothly for the most part. Here are the before pics. I added the link to my first post also to show the failure https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...news-im-going-to-need-some-help.335719/page-2
Kevin,..Looks like a well built motor should run well.. Keep in mind the top end charge will need sufficient fuel supply, Robb MC pump or Holley black electric pump and -8 fuel line would help with a 750 or 850 dp Holley carb.. we sumped my sons tank and ran electric fuel pump.. That Motor should pull all the way to 6000 rpm.. good luck..
I had the Robb MC pump (if not theirs something very similar - was a long time ago) on my last 350 build and thought it worked quite well. Probably can't go wrong w/electric but also probably not necessary.
What spark plugs do you guys think I should try out first for this build? I added more info to the first post showing" Distributor Ignition box Coil Wires I'm not sure what plugs to start out with.
Kevin, if you want to try a set of AC R45TSX plugs, I have a few extra sets. If you have good ignition to fire them. They burn hot & clean.
Thanks guys I'll probably go through a couple sets before I figure out what it likes. Just looking for a good starting point.
Looks awesome Kevin! Cant wait till its in and maybe you can get to a track see how she does. The plugs Larry mentioned will work well, same plugs Im running, haven't changed 'em in a couple years. An MSD distributor either with or without vac advance will do well. My MSD does not have vac advance, I don't think they offered vac advance with the Buick 350 distributor back when I bought mine. MSD 6A or 6AL (L is with rev limiter) Mine is a 6A MSD Blaster coil, its a stock looking coil you can mount in the stock coil bracket. MSD "cut to length" wires All my MSD ignition components have been trouble free since install back in the mid 90's Just replace the MSD cap and rotor once a year or so The above MSD components will give you a SIMPLE, solid, reliable ignition without the complexity of timing boxes, and other electronic gadgetry.
Thanks Mark I got 2 sets of Delco R45TS I had a 20% off deal from the local parts store. I got a TA_724RP Billet distributor with vac advance, and the MSD 6AL box to limit my rpm's. I have my old (used for probably a year) Mallory coil https://www.holley.com/products/ignition/ignition_coils/street/mallory_coils/parts/29219
