Got my motor back from Automotive Machine & Performance today. Its the same one I tried to sell in the classified section for $5000 but no one wanted it: 462/TA aluminum heads/SP-2 intake etc etc etc. It made 543 HP and 557 lbs TQ during the dyno break-in. I should have it in my Regal next week and will post the 6 second times its going to run in the 1/8 mile. Thanks for not buying it. :pp :pp :pp

    Nothing really to crazy:
    462 cubic inches
    Zero deck block
    10.46-1 compression
    Hypertech pistons (ugh)
    Poston 107A hydraulic camshaft
    SP2 intake-1000HP Holley carb
TA aluminum stage 1 (TE) heads (no port work) TA Roller Rockers
    Timing 34 degree

Put the motor in the Regal today and will probably have to pull it back out tomorrow. I was sure I got the torque convertor seated properly but after tightening the bottom two (one each side) bellhousing bolts I couldn't turn the torque convertor anymore (I check after tightening each belhousing bolt). To make matters worse the left header now doesn't want to bolt up as the "G" force crossmember is so thick the collector flange is hitting it and won't let the header come-up (in rear) to get the bolts in. I mocked up everything without using that crossmember and also used a standard 455 block but my motor is a zero deck block. Funny how the small things add up when your trying to put a motor in a car that didn't come (orginally) with that motor. Tomorrow is another day, I'll be back at it. Think I'll have a couple cold ones and think about it tonight.:beers2: :beers2:

Not much progress today. I spent 5 hours trying to bolt the headers up and only got the right side fully bolted up. I've still got one bolt to put in the left side (worked on that bolt for over 2 hours) with no luck. I bought these headers (2" tubes/3 1/2" collector) brand new from a old guy out in the country for $50.00 dollars (they were in the trunk of a 67 Skylark) so guess thats what they maybe fit. Beech Bend is only open for two more weekends so now I don't know if I will get to make a pass before the track closes. Wish I had started on the engine swap earlier. This is the most difficult engine swap I have ever experienced, maybe that is why Buick never put a BBB in a Regal. Some people say it was a breeze while others say it was awfull. I bet the young guys (it was a breeze) while the old guys like me (it was awfull).
Either way, I will be at it again tomorrow! What I really need is a pit crew like "Running". :moonu:

My swap was a difficult too. I had problems getting my rearend, problems with my Turbo 400, and then all the related delays for parts from AZ. Thankfully, I had Floyd and Eggs who were clutch when I needed them. Hang in there partner!:TU:

Beech Bend is only open one more weekend, I'll not have the car ready for a pass. Guess there is always next year but I wanted to make a pass before they close. Wish I had started earlier. :Dou: :Dou: :Dou:

Found out what the "real" problem was with the torque convertor. I used a stock type flexplate with a after market convertor and the convertor body actually touched the weight on the flexplate (the mounting pads actually cleared the weight). The convertor actually only rests about 1/16" on the weight but it is enough to lock everything up. I have a brand new "SFI" flexplate but didn't use it because the weight is on the wrong side of the flexplate and I thought it might be a problem. I have since learned that alot of after market "SFI" flexplates (Buick) have the weight on that side I guess to clear the convertor. Rather than pull it apart again I'm going to hook everything else up and trailer it to my buddy's transmission shop where will will pull the transmission back, change the flexplate to the "SFI" one and put it back together again. Some might say to put spacers in and space the convertor back some but my buddy says it doesn't give the convertor enough room to flex some so I will go with his suggestion. This dog will make a pass somewhere even if I have to tow it further down South!

Lol, it does help! We had 5 guys mounting the mock block, trany and headers last wed... Bring your car up here and we'll hook you up every wed night! byob :pp Although, thse pit crew guys usually work on the car for an hour, then bs for four more!

Actually I strained some muscles in my lower back (I'm a older guy) and haven't been able to work on the car for the past 4 weeks (darn header bolts). The Chiropractor is now my best friend!  P.S Forgot to add that I now have the NHRA 2008 rule book if anyone has any questions concerning whats legal/not legal in setting up there car.

ooohh, don't do that :Dou: Back pains suck and it doesn't take age to screw it up. I went through therapy when I was 20 for about a year. I feel for ya.
Thanks for the heads up on the 08 book, didn't I get the 07 from you last year? I did help a bunch. We decided to use Finishline Motorsports "chassis guy" for the cage and tube cross member. He will get the car here in a couple of weeks.

Finally got my Regal off jack stands today (been there for awhile). I thought I might have a problem with the frontend setting to high now (previously had a iron headed BBC in there) but it sits alright even though the BBB is about 200lbs lighter. Hope to get some help putting the hood back on tomorrow and get the car to my friends transmission shop so it can be finished. I expect to hear it run by the end of the week.

Got the hood back on today (with some help) and even with a dropped air cleaner base the 3" K&N filter is touching the underside of the hood alittle in the front. This is with a 2" cowl hood. Guess I will see if it still hits when the transmission is hooked up to the motor, it may tilt the motor up a bit. Either way the car is ready to go to my friends shop and get finished, probably on Wednesday. I can't wait to hear the motor run.

The Regal is supposed to go to the transmission shop tomorrow to finally get finished. Maybe I'll finally get to hear it run. Beech Bend opens up next Saturday for test and tune.

The Regal is finally in the shop. If everything goes alright I should get to make a 1/8 mile pass at Beech Bend this weekend.
