Hi guys i have 2 sets of heads here casting 430s: 1382983 455: 1237661 both will be bare and i would port match and blend the bowls plan is to add the highest lift spring possible? TA Stage 1? and run shaft rockers. this would go on a 70-71 455 virgin block, that would get tested and lets see if it needs overbore. Oiling mods! possibly ZERO Decked with flat top pistons. Single plane intake Dominator 1050 cfm carb, longtube headers on a Hydraulic or even flat tapped cam with a decent grunt (probably Scotty brown Custom Cam) Weekend warrior engine! I know the ALU heads are out there, but i am not planing on 2.5k for any of this heads. Let the discussion, advises, tips beginn
While the 430 heads may have slightly bigger ports to begin with, they are prone to cracking between the spring pockets. I say go with the 1237661's
Any further advise to make some power? I know BBB and budget dont go together and great gains ( definitly possible) cost $$. a piston recommendation for example for such a build
High lift and stock rockers don't go well together. I wouldn't go more than .540 or so. The head flow will be the biggest influence on power. How much compression do you want to run? That will be a factor on cam selection. Does it need to run on pump gas? http://www.empirenet.com/pkelley2/DynamicCR.html The best way to get to zero deck is with a custom piston with the correct compression distance. Flat tops with zero deck, where do you think the valves will go? Talk to Jim Weise about pistons. http://v8buick.com/index.php?threads/new-470-482-piston-options.324745/#post-2718411 (Scroll up to the 1st post)
Great infos. Lol you right about the block decking ahaha. 540 seems like a good lift for a shaft rocker build. Better than I thought. Yes the headflow is critical for power. Would you go for a overbore to increase ci. .38 to 464 Even if the block stock bore is ok? I might consider nitrous now and then.
I doubt if the stock bore is OK. .038 over is the same as a .030 over Mopar 440, 4.350 bore http://v8buick.com/index.php?threads/470-vs-482-differences-similarities.327964/#post-2746442
