Finally got my 455 installed and running but im having issues with cylinders 4, 6, 8 and 7. they seem to not be firing as good as the other 4 based on header temps. I have a poston S divider intake and have read a lot of mixed reviews. I havent pulled the carb back off to check but pretty sure those are the cylinders that are divided up. Has any one experienced this?
I had mine misfiring on 4 cylinders . It was the 4 cylinders paired off to the same intake runner . Cant remember which runner does what cylinders but it will be 4 cylinders ; 2 on the odd side and 2 on the even side. One of the carb barrells had a piece of dirt in the carb. One of the barells feeds 4 cylinders ; 2 odd cylinders and 2 even cylinders . the other barrell feeds the other 4 cylinders . Try sucking on the carb. Engine running , rev it up and choke off the air with your hand at the choke plate till it just about stalls and remove your hand all the time reving it with your other hand . Rev it up and do it again. You use the engine vacuum to pull the dirt through . Its a old trick I've used many times . And it works.
Yeah that trick is in my toolbox too. But I Always worry about a backfire burning my hand. That would be no bueno.
Figured it out. Fuel is pouring out of the power valve check ball in the baseplate which happens to fill up that side of the divider flooding those cylinders. I appreciate the help though. And backfires are what makes working on a carb exciting.
