Anyone here use Miracle Ear hearing aids?
I went for the dog and pony show....
The guy was like a car salesman....wouldn't give up. I ended up saying no after numerous enticements. He was pissed....said I wasted HIS time!!!
$6,700 ....I want to think about it!!! He said if I come back later it will be $300 more!

Supposed to get a $10 WAWA gas card either way....of course they were fresh out of them.

The guy spent 2hrs trying to convince me....the waiting area was backed up (1hr appointments)....haha

I went with ME about 6 years ago. I have had severe hearing loss for years so had to see a Specialist to verify I could use them. I bought 1 aid at 1st and was getting mixed emotions. During a visit I decided to get the other aid. Fast forward 4 years and Miracle Ear sent me a promotion for the best and smallest in the country. The sound was amazing but about that time my ears started giving me problems. Within 30 days of purchase I sent them back requesting my old ones. They charged me 25% restocking fee. That was a huge chunk of change.

I now wear 1 hearing aid that the quality is so so but I only paid $330 for it. If you go for Miracle Ear the aids are amazing. The Technology they use is great...BUT...read the fine print and do NOT let them push you into it. As my hearing as deteriorated so significantly I don't expect to be in any hearing aid in 10 years.

So, if that is what you want...shop around ALOT and then go to ME but know what they sell in advance and the cost involved. The Customer Service at the local store can not be duplicated and you truly are a customer for life. I could call them tomorrow and they would test my hearing, adjust my aids and put them back on me. ( I still have my original set from ME).

Good luck on whatever you decide but walk away from the saleperson….he is a shyster...ppat

I have had hearing aids for 2 years. I went to an Audiologist that is a doctor and not some Store trained tech. I ended up with Phonak hearing aids. Made in Switzerland. Not cheap either at $6000 for pair. What brand did they offer you? The ones I got are Lithium Ion and rechargeable . No batteries to fumble with every few days. That was a major selling point. Who needs that aggravation. Mine are set up for my exact hearing loss on a computer. They have no volume. Bottom line is I still have problems in loud places like some restaurants and I avoid bars like the plague. I wished I took better care of my hearing when I was younger. Loud concerts and firearms with no protection. Pretty sure it’s the hydraulic hammers on excavators at construction sites that did the most damage. Take care of your hearing guys. Hearing loss is forever and it’s damn depressing.

I wish I could blame my hearing loss on loud noises and old age. My 1st major re-construction of my left ear drum was when I was 12 years old. I have been trained most of my life to go deaf so every year is a blessing.

$6K for a pair of Miracle ear hearing aids includes several settings for both ears. And my ears are set different. They have this thing called "the loop", court house, some churches and museums use the loop. It connects you directly to the sound system in that area so you are guaranteed to hear. I got yearly hearing tests with them and 6 month cleaning and testing. They are not a bad company, just stay away from the saleperson. I guess it would depend on the person you deal with. I originally dealt with the lady at the office and for 4 years was very happy. When I dealt with the sales person is when I got ripped off. I believe he signed the contract as DBA so he left ME blameless.

The sales guy said they only last about 7 years......that's when I started running away. And that's if you don't lose or damage them.....
The rechargeable batteries last about 2 yrs.....
The ones I tried had horrible amplification of my voice...like I was in a trash can. He said that would all be fine tuned.....seemed annoying.
I'm thinking I'll wait until I REALLY need them.

Do you have trouble hearing your wife in normal conversation or at work? That is when you need them.,I am always acutely aware of people behind me especially at night. I don’t want to lose that sense. Get the hearing aids.

  9. there are much better hearing aids out there than the miracle ear. I went through all kinds of different hearing aids before I ended up finally with cochlear implants. Go to an audiologist that carries multiple lines of hearing aids. never limit yourself to a facility that carries just one brand of hearing aids because there are differences

I have a set of Phonak compliments VA. If your hearing loss may have been service related go to the VA. They are programmed for each ear and come with a remote. They have helped alot, but my hearing is starting get worse. Need to get another test done to see if they indeed worse.
Before I went to the VA I started looking around on the internet. There were a number of people that recommended Costco.

Yeah, I went to the VA also. They haven't lasted & they won't replace them. Now that things have gotten worse via the constant LOUD ringing that keeps me awake some nights I'm told there's NOTHING that can be done about it.
A friend of mine Dad had some kind of device/implant that almost made the ringing go away his Dad told me. Since my friend moved 20+ years ago I have no way I know of to contact him & his Dad passed in the meantime.
I'm was/am being told there is NOTHING that can be done about it.

  12. Tom,
I had horrible ringing in my ears. When I got cochlear implants it cured it. That may be what your friends dad had

What is your experience with those? Do they really help? Was it bad getting them done? I still scuba dive on ocassion. Not sure if it would effect that?

  14. my experience has been nothing but positive. I had profound hearing loss and severe ringing in the ears. All corrected now. Scuba diving shouldn't be a problem with cochlear implants and they make a setup designed to go under water for swimmers and divers. Insurance now covers the procedure and equipment as well.

My hearing isn't what it used to be. I have learned to enjoy the quiet.

It’s nice at bedtime. I used to wake up if a pin dropped. That can be good and bad. Might get a dog soon. Then he could be my Ears.
