UPDATE, CAR FOUND. Midwest: 1964-1967 Skylark/Special/GS Wanted Hello everyone. I'm new to the board but glad I found this site. My last Buick was a 65 Skylark convertible owned 10 years ago that was sold to pay for school. Since then I've graduated, found a job, bought a house (matured...maybe a little bit) and am ready to own another Buick again. I'm looking for a 64-67 Skylark, Special or GS 2 door (no convertibles this time) with as little to no rust as possible. I'm wanting to spend $7500 or less. I'm willing to travel 250 miles for a good car (I'm in the central IL area), so basically any of the surrounding IL states and even OH will work. Thanks, and I hope to be on this board quite a bit.

Thanks Joe. I checked out the Cars for sale but couldn't find any 65's in the Midwest area that were hardtops. Were there a couple I missed? Is your 64 Special still for sale? Too bad I don't live closer or I'd have to check it out. There's a 64 about 4 hours away from me that I've considered at TopNotchVehicles.com (I'm not able to post links yet) but I think they want too much for it.
Don't be afraid to Post A New Thread asking for help in looking at cars outside your area. Usually there is someone willing to help, or may know a guy near it.
Welcome to the board. I see you have good taste in cars too. That is a nice looking 64 on that other site. Keep us updated on your car hunt progress. If you give it time you should find exactly what you want with that kind of money to spend. I know how it is with everything being too far away. I would like to find a 64 -65 project car but the good ones all turn out to be too far east for me.
Whew, things are getting really frustrating. I called about what looked like the perfect car and it was already sold If I can find a rust free 65 that's all original (original engine, tranny, etc) that'd be perfect (that's what this car was. I've been searching for over a month now and the cars out there are either over-priced and rusty, already sold, or not as original as I'd like. Too bad there wasn't a way to combine internet searches so I don't miss out on another car, but as it is a person has to search high and low on the internet just to find something.

If you are wanting an honest rust free car, you are probably more likely to find a clean car in one of the Southern or Western states. They can be found in the Tri-state however they are harder to come by. What you might pay in shipping the car home might be money well invested over buying something closer that may need more work. Expect to pay $500 - $800 to get a car home from the West Coast. Home this helps..
I ended up making an offer on a 64 Skylark today but they want about $1000 more than what I'm willing to pay for it. I guess if I don't find something I can pay that much more on my house right?
Set the money back for the car. Something will turn up and if you have to travel, you know you have the car you want, instead of getting in a hurry and ending up with something you are not satisfied with.

May be getting a 69 Chevelle 2 door to restore through girlfriends family. I have to say that the collector car market is still brutal. There's a lot of the bad element out there that reminds me why I got out of the hobby to begin with-selling cars out from under you even though you had a verbal agreement; cars with huge rust issues that the seller tries to hide; wanting way more than a car is worth and not budging on the price; etc. Very frustrating, and it's one of the main reasons the younger generation couldn't care less about the hobby. Sad, but one of these days they'll all be crushed to make room for their Hondas.

I have to apologize for my previous reply. I had just gotten done dealing with a certain (will not mention names) someone who many of you on here have had problems with. Long story short, I felt like I was being scammed. Frustrating, especially after I felt I had finally found a decent car. So....I'm still looking for a Buick. There's a lot of good guys on here that outweigh the ones out there who make the experience terrible. Still working on getting that '64, but we'll see.
They accepted my offer for the '64!!!!! I'm trying to figure out when to pick it up and what all I'll need to do. Should I go for it??
dont know if your interested in it but there is a 1964 skylark for sell near me. it is near wayland, MO. they are asking 2600 for it. doesnt look to bad but does need some work.
