Anyone doing business with Cooper Insurance Center in Okemos (the guy responsible for this mess) should be re-evaluating that decision.
His agency gets great reviews as well (worth a read). 1 star out of 5 https://www.google.com/search?q=Coo...me..69i57j0.2242j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
What better way to discourage and keep dangerous street racing to a minimum than keep closing all the drag strips in the country. Makes perfect sense.
Talk about stuff that insurance companies pay for when people crash at those speeds! They are f*king us and themselves!
It's amazing to me that someone owns 70 acres of land and can't do what they want on it.....well, I guess "amazing" isn't the right word....I'll think of it......
This is NOT an insurance company, rather one person, a rogue agent, that sounds like a bully. Just because he is in the industry you can't paint everyone with the same broad brush.
This is just not right. Close the dragstrip which brings in revenue and keep building stupid bike paths with taxpayer money. This agent does sound shifty, I wonder why the parent company doesn’t step in as he seems to be a blemish to their brand.
Because he is like me, an independent agent. He is not an employee of Progressive, they just appoint him to sell their product. As long as he produces business for Progressive, they don't care, especially on something like this. Oh, and to add insult to injury, my city is putting in a "multi-use path" (like a bike path) taking 10' off the front of my business property. It leaves me with 1' of grassy area in front. I have zero compensation for this either. I'll probably get the taxes raised too because of this "improvement"....
Don't feel bad.... city has taken 30' , 10 yrs later another 15', now are taking another 30' for road widening. Originally had 22 parking spaces for a 3 store plaza, then 15, now it will be 4. Sold the property. City never gives you going values either. They will condemn your property.
That's the word on the street, bully. He used to live near the track, but has since moved so he should no longer have a dog in this fight. The other complainer owns the mobile park near the track. He doesn't live there either. From what I've heard, the residents of the mobile park don't have a problem with it, just the owner who doesn't live there. So basically two guys with enough money and hatred to keep the track owners in court, are forcing this outcome.
The guy is a bully. I have been to the meetings. He sported a "steven segal" pony tail and seems to fancy himself as him. He did a lot of underhanded tactics that I wish the track owners could have sued him for. They have sunk a lot of money into the track to go legit. As it was a 'private' track before, they could be still racing there as a 'club' track with 'donations 7 days a week. So they go to weekends only and as a legit track, then this happens. At the meetings, many area businesses were all for the track.
Here are the actual court documents if anyone is interested: https://www.courtlistener.com/pdf/2019/03/14/mark_cooper_v._raymond_d_comer.pdf Cliff notes: (1) Cooper filed multiple articles of organization with the State of Michigan Corporations Division for assumed business names, all of which were variations of Onondaga Dragway; (2) Cooper intimidated a witness before the witness testified at the bench trial in this case; and (3) Cooper called the Chapman Agency, an insurance agency, and implied that he was a member of the Onondaga Township Board in an effort to obtain confidential information from the Chapman Agency regarding the Township’s insurance policy. Cooper clearly engaged in a full-throttle effort to close the Dragway and he explored multiple avenues of relief, one of which is the present litigation. In so doing, Cooper filed articles of organization for the Dragway that he had no intention of using and misled an employee at the Chapman Agency in an effort to weaken the intervening party Township’s litigation position. These actions may not directly relate to “nuisance,” but they clearly relate to Cooper’s claim before this Court, and they constitute misconduct sufficient to hold that Cooper acted with unclean hands.
I'm no lawyer but I think Cooper should be prosecuted for his actions and the dragway should be able to sue him. He committed several crimes.
There is no money for lawyers as the track owners are still in debt to the tune of $340,000. from the proceedings so far.
