i tried to jump my car off and the car was turning over trying to crank but then I heard this loud noise metal to metal sound. The sound you hear when the car is already running then you try to crank it while it’s running.

I put a new battery in the car and I still have the same outcome. It’s make a loud sound when trying to crank the car. I have no idea on where to start. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

passenger side under exhaust manifold, check for loose starter/flex plate or flywheel bolts, as well as proper spacing of the starter to the late/wheel. might just need a simple shim

If it was OK prior to trying to jump start it probably broke the nose cone.

Also solenoid could have become weak, .... or defective bendix drive.

The nose cone gets cracked from starter kick back. #1 cause of that is too much initial timing.

OR, kickback from a bad battery also.
