Prototype sold for 55k Plus commission. Anybody know what John chamberlain actually sold his car for years ago ?
I thought it would be a no sell again - I missed out of it again. I hope a genuine Buick guy got it and will preserve it forever.
I guess what really hurt Alain's car was the fact that it was a factory replacement block. Way better than any run of the mill engine, but not the original born with. I think he was asking 75K Canadian back when he listed it here. So, what was that like $57K U.S.?? Still a beautiful car with an awesome resto and I think someone got a lot of car for the money!
Whoever bought the prototype needs to put it away and keep it for 10 years or so before trying to sell it again....No way a "regular" Stage 1 GS should be worth more than that car.
The prototype has been over the block so many there was absolutely zero interest in it on the block they couldn't wait for it to get off stage. I hope 10 Years helps that.
I'm pretty sure that's the same car that was on Craigslist back in 2010 or 2011 for around $20K. Thornton ended up doing the frame off, too.
I would love to have the prototype car and put it back the way it should be. I would be a caretaker for a long time, as well, to ensure its history.
Pretty sure that's the one had almost 200k invested in it for restoration. Heard it need complete floorboards.
First time I saw this car was in Atlantic City car show and auction right after Thornton finished the restoration, the red 71 GS Stage one four-speed 1 of 9 convertible was also there the car that Craig Jackson bought for 145k Still has today.
Why ? Do you really believe that the next generation behind us (I am 53) has an interest in these cars ? They are all into the Honda and Toyota cars. If they want a muscle car do you really believe they are going to want a Buick ? I have said this for a long time. Anyone fixing up these Buicks for any other reason than the fact that like them is not going to get rich. The market for Buicks is very small and if anyone is paying attention you can clearly see that people willing to bid up cars at this auction and spend a lot of money at this auction are sure as hell not spending money on Buicks compared to other brands. I don't think the prices of the Buicks were really all that great. With what they cost to restore and for what many of them cost just to buy a driver condition one you would be far better to put your money in the stock market for the next 10 years before investing in one of these Buicks. You believe they will MAYBE go up in value. John Chamberlin sold the prototype car many years ago for $72k and now you could have bought if for less today then he sold it for many years ago. That investment strategy didn't work out for the people that bought the car back then. I for one don't think it will work out for the next person either. You also need to understand that this prototype is NOT a matching numbers Stage1 the engine was swapped out years ago. This is why other Stage1's I believe are worth more. This was just a parade car nothing really different about it unlike Brad's GSX prototype that was completely different than the final production car.
