I'm replacing my noisey hydraulic Morel roller lifters with Johnsons. I put the lifter on the base circle of the cam, put the adjuster screw on the TA roller rocker flush with the rocker. I then used an adjustable pushrod to obtain "0" preload plus one additional turn. I have to wait until tomorrow to borrow a 9-10" micrometer, but I want to make sure that this is the correct way to measure before I order new pushrods. Thanks, Jeff

You are correct , one turn equals .045 iirc, I measure with a tape measure, you have a pretty good window of adjustment, 1/32 of an inch one way or the other isn't going to matter

Ask Jim Weise, but pretty sure the Johnsons are shorter travel and require less preload. I used 1/2 a turn after 0 lash. The Johnsons lifter cup is deeper so you need longer push rods. They have a faster refresh rate as well. I did notice a 2-3 psi less oil pressure at hot idle with them. I think that faster refresh rate might account for that. They are quieter than the Morels, I am happy with them. I measured my push rods and added .230 to them for the deeper cup. I’m citing that from memory, but check with Jim to be sure.

Just spoke with Jim about this the other day, said the Johnsons are short travel and to set at .030 preload.

Please check your Cams lobes out to confirm that they are still good to break in new lifters on in the first place!

Looking at the base circle of the Cam the lobe should only have a shinny ware / contact pattern seen half way across it, if the contact pattern is more then that in width then you have a Cam lobe in trouble !
