I have a question for you guys,

If I don't send out my Buick super sport rims to get the centers cut out and welded in larger chrome rimshells - does anyone else do this type of work?

I got my 15x8's from Curt earlier in the year, and they are great. I just ordered 2 15x6's for the front. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I may be his only customer, so he ought to be fast for me.

Sorry about all the problems you guys have had. Good luck.

Stockton Wheel in Stockton California. They made my 15x7's into 15x14's and triple chrome them. I wouldn't hesitate doing business with them again. Top shelf work!!!!

Thats the part that boggles my mind. He has such a great business idea, yet he is going to get lost in the details. I thought long and hard about starting a similar venture..

I also gave a friend Curts number last year after seeing it on this site. He said Curt was very slow and never responded to his questions or phone calls. He did eventually get his wheels after chasing him down at a swap meet but he will not deal with him again because of the poor communication.

  10. I spoke with a local wheel builder today who does the buick rally wheels as well as all the other muscle car wheels. he reminded me that Curt only acid washes the wheel centers and then paints them and that may be some of the reason for rust. if there were pits or blisters before the wheel was acid washed they will show up again. I ordered a set of wheels from this local guy and he told me that all of his centers are rechromed and the outer rims are new. my cost for 2-15x8 with 5.5 backspacing and 2-15x7 with 4.5 backspacing was 460.00, i'll post pics when i get them next week. This guy told me he would welcome the business if Board members wanted to buy from him direct.

I'm looking forward to the pics - if he does a good job I would certainly be interested in eventually doing business with him for a set of wheels.

:Do No: I am disappointed that some are now having problems with Curt's wheels, along with poor service and no communication from Curt. There is no excuse for poor, or no communication.

I am happy with my wheels and service from Curt (bought last year), and they still look perfect today. I know he is a "one man operation" and he probably took on more orders than he could handle. Without good tracking and communication, he let things go bad.

Perhaps he can post an update here on the problem, and make good on the deals that went bad?

I've been considering the move away from Electra hubcaps for awhile and this seemed like a reasonable way to go...but I'll hold off knowing what I know now.

He was last on V8Buick on 6/17. I guess it's up to him if he wants to tell his side publicly.

This is Curt in Slater Iowa with McWheels. I just read all of the comments made about me and my business. First I want to apologize to anyone I have offended. Especially Mr Miller. I have sat on his order way to long and will take care of him after I get back from Iola in a week. Right now on my work desk I have 32 wheel orders. All types of wheels, Fords, Mopars, Buicks, you name it, I have them. I make the wheel orders one at a time in order that they were taken on the phone. It takes roughly 3-4 days to make a set starting from the very beginning to end and I have to have an original to begin with. Have you guys have any idea how many 14 x 6 Buick wheels I go thru in a years time? Roughly 500-600. I have to collect these at junk yards and swapmeets in order to bring them back to my shop and cut them apart. I work aloe, I don't have a 50,000 square footage shop, I don't have 3 people working underneath me, I have to do everything by myself.
I know my worst working trait is communication with the customers. I usually work until 1-2 in the shop and then up at 7 in the morning to start again. I don't look at the computer for days cuz I am on the road collecting wheels. Tomorrow I go to Nebraska to buy 28 Buick wheels from a customer. I hope I am getting across how stinking busy I am with the wheel business.
Some customers tell me they don't need the wheels for a month or so then start calling me after a week to ask how are they coming. I am sure some of you guys can relate but again, I can't make excuses for my bad communication with the customers.
I know if you talked to every Buick guy I have sold to, 90% would say the wheels are great, 5% would tell me about some small flaw or rust showing on the back side after 2 years of ownership, and the last 5% you could not please if you gave them a hundred dollar bill with sugar sprinkled on it.
So what it comes down to is this, I have bad communication skills and I don't talk to the customers like I should for a business and again I am sorry, but if the Buick guys don't want to throw their business my way, try TRUDESIGN WHEELS in Denver. Jim Lyon is an ok guy who makes Buicks and he will help you out. 1-800-621-6436. I know I have lost a lot of business becuz of my slowness but I wish you could walk a mile in my shows for a couple of weeks and then look at the situation again!

    Hi Curt,
Thanks for posting your side of the story. I was happy with your work on my Buick 15x8 rally rims so I will consider using you again when it comes time to do my Buick super sport wheels.

I can't stress in enough detail about this "Curt" and his so called business "McWheels".

First, what kind of business will not answer or return phone calls? The answer, a shady business practice.

Buyers beware, here is this guy's process:

    1) curt will gladly take your money
    2) Upon receipt of your money, curt will call to say thanks for your money
    3) curt will say "you'll have rims in hands within two weeks"
    4) at this time two weeks will pass, then two more weeks, and more.... (all while avoiding your phone calls and no calls in return).
    5) curt will have your money and you will not have any rims

Notice I will not capitalize his name, that is reserved for a proper noun and I consider his ethics and business skills anything BUT satisfactory.

All I hope to accomplish is save others the hardships and unnecessary stress this person brings to this hobby we'd like to call enjoyable.

If anyone knows this guy, can you confirm he is indeed still alive, I'd like the product I already paid for.

NOTE: I do live within a few hours of driving distance and plan on paying this person a visit, It's amazing how differently things tend to work out during face to face interaction.

Please feel free to reply to this post.

    Thanks for the advice.

Let me ask you a questions, would you sign your name?

Think about it, the guy has your money, has your rims to be modified. I'd say NO, you would never see either again.

I guess I'm confused as to curt's downfall with my work order. I can only blame my bad luck.

He did however have no qualms in cashing my check several months ago.

"Hi curt, if you're listening or one of your buddies calls you about this post to forum. Could you please update your customers about the status of your work orders".

If you do get back to your current customers and I happen to be one whom receives an update (any update whatsoever) I will revoke any negative publicity.
